Icon3 So I drove my Type R across the U.S.

I used to live in Southern California (currently living in South Carolina), and I decided to drive out there a few weeks ago. I went through the bottom half of the country on the way there, and then took the north route on the way back. The trip was amazing, although lots of driving. It took me 12 days, 20 states, and about 6500 miles.

Anyway, here's a sampling of some of the trip:

A pier in Mississippi

Driving through Texas

At Montezuma's Castle

Grand Canyon

Filling up

The Hoover Dam

In Las Vegas

Downtown Los Angeles

Just by chance, local L.A. resident Sean saw me driving and flagged me down

How can you not like Disneyland?

Yosemite

Golden Gate Bridge

After stopping by Yosemite, I went to Mount Rushmore

After Rushmore, I decided to head home

I've always wanted to do that trip although I'm in Ontario Canada. I have driven my previous R to Florida and back. That was very fun.

The R held up perfectly. Except for routine oil checks, no problems to report.

And yeah, I had quite a few people try to race me on the highway.

Good stuff... How did you keep heR safe during the 20 days? Did you stay at hotels/motels or did you camp?

Honestly? I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary; just locked her up. Oh, and I stayed at mostly motels (shout out to Motel 6).

Very cool to see. Did you make the trip alone or did you have a passenger?

Nice pics. What made you move to South Carolina. I live in Spartanburg. About 15 mins away from Greenville. Welcome to the Carolinas

I made the trip by myself. If anybody is going to do this, I recommend lots of music and podcasts.

Oh, and the camera I used was a Canon 20D, and I was using a couple different lenses.

I was going to do a similar thread to this in the next month, but now it seems pointless.
I am going on a semi-cross country trip leaving in 11 days from Ohio to somewhere roughly 1800 miles away. I will be driving my 98 with 145K on it.

Good thread, cool trip, I am jealous. Only thing I have used my R for lately is a moving van.

I want to do this someday. LOL, so you decided one day why don't I go for a drive. You kept heading West until you hit water, then decide to go back the other way.
