Are rear drums ok?
So I've been thinking of joining comscc this year and going up to NHMS for at least one track day, two if I have enough work this summer to get more money. My car is my 96 accord lx turbo, but it has rear drums. Since most of the braking is done by my front, should I bother spending money on a rear disk swap just yet? I know with disks, I'll achieve better braking and cooling, but should I bother since it's going to be my first time out? I know you guys suggest seat time before most mods, but most of you have cars that came with rear disks too :p
So far I have some close to new sumitumo htr II's, and i'm planning on doing at least a brake bleed...probably new pads after I decide on a set since mine are nearing their end. Suggestions on pads would be nice to. It looks like NHMS has its fair share of turns so i'm taking that into consideration on pads.
Thanks guys!

your first time out at any kind of motor sport event you will be the limiting factor in performance not the car or how its set up. Go out and have fun!
I run drums in the back of my 91 civic si. it save me close to 30lbs. there was really no significant difference in braking from on to another. Then again this was autox.

Drums will work for most people. The clamping force of rear discs isn't much more than that of drums (obviously disc diameter comes into play).
The advantage of rear discs is they are far less prone towards fade, but that shouldn't be an issue on an auto-x course honestly.

EBC Greens FTMFL. Hawk HP+ would be fine, some people like Carbotech Panther+ (I've never tried those and so can't comment on them really). Your tires aren't that sticky, so you don't want a too-aggressive pad.
I know of a winning pro Honda racer that said the switch to rear drum was in his words "not worth the hassle". This was on a pre '91 crx prepped to national race level for the ARRC. Good Luck.
