Default Some more vband stuff

Back at it again with the VW vband manifolds. The vband manifold is a huge hit with the VW crowd as of late so im hella busy making them. We recently went to a local meet with over 50 cars and we had my turbo kits on display. Heres the latest.

Top notch workmanship! The way you overlap the stitches is almost flawless.

In the first picture, looking down into the v-band flange...did you weld the inside of the collector to the flange?

What model tig welder are you using?

Yes the inside gets welded first with an argon back up on the outside so I get 100% penetration on the OD...then chill it...then weld the OD will purging the inside. That way when I port the collector I know I have 100% penetration and there wont be a fusion line exposed if I port to heavily. I use a miller LX350

I understand. Thanks for sharing! How do you rig the argon to shield the outside? How many amps do you use on the ramp down/ finishing current setting?

lol Hot? Yeah im getting nearly 100% penetration. Im less concerned about a coloring than I am of getting a good strong weld. I set the welder to 80 amps and use what I need I honestly believe in using that technique. Most of the time you need a little more heat off the bat then slowly ramping down as the tube heat soaks. I am VERY happy with the way these are coming out lately. To be honest I was a little blow away at the appearance of the welds. A few years ago I had no idea I would capable of doing this.

Back on track.....I use a custom, homemade, gas back up to cover the OD welds.

To my knowledge this is the first vw manifold featuring a vband turbo and MVS 38mm vband flange.

What are the specs of the piping you are making your manifolds out of?
