hello Type R owners I want to get one but how do I separate real from fake
Hello everybody I was interested in getting a USDM 2000 type R, they're selling it for 13k but since a lot of people build replicas, how do I tell if its a real one. any info you can give will be really helpfull, thank you.
only true way to know is to check the VIN. also, be sure the VIN's are the same in all the different locations - i'm not sure where they're etched on the vehicle, but i've seen stickers on the hood, hatch, and the plate on the driver's side of the dash by the windshield.
most often, a "fake" will be a GSR with a 5-lug pattern and a wing. once you pop the hood, it's easy to tell the difference between a B18C1 and B18C5 engine (intake manny different, engine code etching, etc). also, 97/98 USDM's only ever came in champ white. 00/01 USDM's only came in yellow/black (CDM's were made in 99, and champ white was an option all the way through the build cycle. also, they have red seats). no sunroof, either.

Check if there's a sunroof. If there isn't, check the rear subframe.
All those parts you're listing aren't what makes a type r and type r. It's the actual chassis. Once you establish that the actual chassis is a type r from what I mentioned above, then go with this guys advice as far as having type r parts.

If it has a sunroof then don't buy it. Like the above posts check vin and check the block and head numbers.
Even if the car has the right VIN finding one that is real is the least of your worries. You need to find one that hasn't been pounded on or modified to who knows what.
That's assuming you want one that is original and in good condition.

If you don't know a real from a fake, you really shouldn't be buying one, because you obviously have no idea what you are getting.
Ok I will try to help with what little I know.
1. The vin begins with JH4DC231
2. No sun roof or cruise control
Please note that it may be a type r but the extras that make it special can be removed and replaced with parts from other integras.
For example. ITR'S have five lug suspension with bigger brakes
The seats are cloth and suede with red stitching.
Rear bumper tie bar
Carbon fiber pieces
The best thing for you to do is do your research online and or have someone who knows what to look for, inspect the car with you. Good luck. But remember if the price is right and the frame is original it can always be rebuilt.

Oh wait, I forgot, almost everyone who owns an ITR for performance has left this site. Its just the hard parkers and a few stragglers left.
In that case, don't even worry about getting a real one, just get the one that looks the best and will get you the most points at your local shows.
It really doesn't matter to me. The thing that makes me lol is that this little guy is disgruntled because the OP is asking tell tale signs from a R and non-R. He says: "If you don't know a real from a fake, you really shouldn't be buying one" as if everyone was born knowing or something. It's also a pretty cocky remark as if owning an R and tracking it adds inches to your dick, and gives you the right to belittle people. The maturity level is astounding!
What do you expect though dude, its honda-tech, where all douche's come and proclame their retarted ego. Its kind of sad. The man was just asking a question. Then again he could of just used the search tab as well eh? Lol

There has been some real asinine comments from many people.
step back, take a breathe.

Btw there are a few single owner ITRs out there around $13k... keep looking & don't settle on the first one you see.
