for the guys around the 550-600 area what clutches are you using?

For that whp range, you probably would have high torque, so I would run a twin. I always been a fan of the Exedy twin plate, its good right out of the box, with no adjustments having to be made to the pedal.

But you of all ppl I thot would look up some clutch threads, lol! (I keed, I keed!) Is this a "hint" as to what that stock GSR is destined for? ;-)

** EDIT **The CC stage V four puck is about as extreme as you probably can go on the street/strip without going to a twin (I agree with Turbocivic94 below)

 

I made 650WHP with Comp Stage 5 clutch.

Twin Disc is very hard to drive on the street. I swapped mine out for single.

 

I got one of them in my car, too. Sprung hub.

Other than the chatter during take off, its pretty streetable. And it grabs like a SUMBITCH. :-)

 

CM Twin for my street car. Seems to be fine for me.

 

i hate driving my twin exedy on the street, but i can do it
before that i had a centerforce dual friction, made 500whp. i had it a quite a few years before putting turbo and plenty of turbo radial passes sliding clutch. lasted 5-6yrs. of course finally pulled out started slipping high up, on slicks
if i were to drive on the street still i would go back to that

i was trying to stay away from the twin disc thing. if i needed to i would but the car will be more street driven that anything but will see a lot of track.

I debated on posting this in the transmission forum for a while but i want to know what the street/drag duys did for a not all out drag car but runs 10's.

my clutch is the AI4-XTR4

 

I have a comp twin disc and that thing grabs so hard it scares me sometimes lol. It's not horrible to drive on the street, but a little frustrating at times at stop lights when you get surprised and need to leave quick.

 

Has this clutch started slipping already?? Or you want to change it BEFORE it happens?

I say just push this clutch as far as it will go before changing it.

 

no hasnt slipped at all.

I made 415/275 with it and it holds rock solid. But now i have a built bottom end and since the motor will be coming out i see no point to install a clutch twice.

But i only want to stay in the "transmission safe zone" motor is capable of 700 im sure, but im small time and just want to have fun with it.

Yeah i was thinking about just pushing it. according to the site it says the clutch is good for 408ft/lbs of torque

 

i think the twin necessity has alot to do with the main purpuse of the car. every now and again drag a good single should suit you fine, but if you start running rounds and goin fast you may need a twin to handle the heat.

 

as in not letting the car cool down between heats right? i think i can make that happen i guess depending on how far i make it. and right now my driving sucks

 

just remember with a twin, you have double the surface area to handle heat and clamping. not necessarilly hot lapping, just general abuse.

for the record, my exedy twin is not that bad on the street. ahem when i drove it on the street.

 

I like the ACT stuff for the street, I didnt get the life out of the XTR6 I had but I saw with my own eyes an XXTR6 with the big PP make 40-50 passes in the low 11 high 10 range all over 140mph (400+tq) on 24.5's, and that same clutch probably had another 20 passes on 23" slicks with less power (330tq), and then see 10,000+ miles of street action at 400+tq daily running Corn. It eventually went to **** and slipped when a 42R went on the car around 600hp, some of the the pucks fell out the case when we pulled the tranny

 

Put your purse down and go get the twin. Its not that bad to drive, you get used to it like anything else.

I hated my ACT clutch cause pedal was so hard. On the other hand comp clutch pedal is like factory and grabs like ****. Twin disc was a light switch. on or off

 

When I had my TypeR at 600whp on the street, I used a SPEC Stage 5. It drove better and lasted longer than the twin

 

twin hard on the street? what. its like cutting butter with a hto knife.
never have to worry about pedaling a slipping clutch just traction control.

i had a CM stage 4 & it deff wasnt handling 550whp on the street. burnt that thinhg till it was hardly holding.
but then i got the exedy twin & it was all good. its got over 3,000 "hard hard" miles on it & about 40or more passes at low 10s at 149moh & it is still in perfect condition. just put some calapers on the dist last week & they are still over 3.85mm 4mm is factory. shocked me. the only wear i can see is on the floater plates & that is from me preloading the hell out of the car at the track.

if your gunna buy a unsprung clutch better off with a twin.
heres the cm stage 4. after about 4,000 miles over powered the clutch by far.




& the twin 1 week later .ive had this clutch for 2.5 years now & its going right back onto the car when its back up & running

i would buy a twin disk....comp twin disk clutch is the best even on the street call chad at ctrdynosports.com he can give you a good deal.

 

as far as i see it, if your gunna track it with that much power, and be on slicks, get the twin.



and your a pansy if you cant drive it on the street.

 

if u dont go twin u will deff learn the hard way
