What's up I'm new to honda-tech and even hondas for that matter. I just sold my 88 Jetta coupe in hopes of getting something more reliable. I'm still a hardcore vw head but need something reliable to daily. I want either a coupe or a hatchback. I've been told the 1.6 is the way to go.

Is there anything in particular I should look for when looking at cars? Thanks for the help in advance.

In terms of the stock motor, you will have a much better starting point if you get one with the 1.6 (engine code will be d16z6, commonly referred to in slang as the z6) This motor comes in the 92-95 Civic EX (coupe/sedan) or Civic SI (hatchback). It also will come with the more desirably geared transmission. The thing to look for the most when shopping for one is just an overall clean body, anything mechanical is usually a cheap/easy fix, but at the same time you don't want to get one that runs like a junker. and stay away from other people's projects! buying someone else's project is bad news 9/10 times!

 

I agree stay away from another persons project, sure they are cheap, and easy to find half finished, but oh so frustrating to work on, repair, rebuild rework, (you get the picture).
When you decide on a car you like, make sure the Timing belt has been replaced, (receipts) if there is any doubt, replace it. It takes only a day and saves the broken timing belt issue I guess went through.
