Default Coolant/ dealer question for 91 DA

I have a problem. I just drained the coolant per Acura manual. It was all easy to do. Nothing to it. As I tightened the bleed bolt, the whole piece broke off!! Coolant poured out! The dealer says they stop making the bleed screw hole on the the housing. Its just a housing without the bleed screw. Do you guys think thats accurate info?

So now I had to remove the old and installed the new housing w/ liquid gasket.

Question is, so how do you bleed the coolant now?

Can I just remove the drain plug instead?

I was assuming that is what you meant by "bleed bolt", as the cooling system doesn't need to be "bled", per say. You just need to get all the air out by running it with the rad cap off and adding water as needed (or squeezing the lower rad hose until all the air is out).

hmmm..interesting. Thats probably why acura doesn't make those housings with the drain plug anymore. Does it matter what hose to squeeze out? I've heard to squeeze the upper hose? How long do I let it idle for the air to be released? thanks

When there aren't any bubbles coming out, then you should be fine.

I think it matters which hose.

Before the car fully warms up, no coolant flows to the radiator. I think this is why air can be trapped in the lower hose. Squeezing the hose allows the air to move up to the rad cap before being sucked into the engine by the water pump.

You let it idle until the fan kicks on. This way you know the thermostat opened up and coolant is flowing into the radiator.

After it has cycled a bit (you can wait until the fan turns back off if desired), and no more air is getting pushed through the rad, fill the overflow bottle to the line and cap the radiator.

How I've always done it anyway.

These are helpful... http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/sh...CAT591_pg2.htm

You can just start the car and walk away for a while, plus you don't get coolant all over the place.

its true they did replace the water outlet and the new ones don't have the bleed hole, ended up ordering both the outlet and the bleeder and the parts guy didn't tell me that the new ones don't have provisions for it.
