Default Ignition problem- verification needed

car, 98 5 spd GS, died on the highway, got the car home, but it is another story...

no MIL so I went on to troubleshoot..plenty of fuel, but no spark!

so far have checked:

0. All Fuses- under hood and under dash- all OK.
1. Spark plugs and wires- all OK, work in the other car just fine.
2. Main relay- tested OK, there is 2 sec delay and click, fuel pump is priming, plenty of fuel on plugs. (took relay out and checked as instructed in helm's manual)
3. Main Relay harness connections to ECU- all wires OK,
there is connection between MR and ECU,
there are proper voltages between A10 and A11, between A10 and A24 pins on 32-pin connector on ECU.
there is 0 V for first 2 sec, then 12V between A16 and A10 on 32 pin connector on ECU when ign is ON( II ). (at this point Helms manual telsm me to test main Relay again.. dah, just checked it.
4. Distributor- cap and rotor OK, replaced from working car, still no spark
5. Ignition coil- replaced from working car, still no spark
6. Igniter, ICM- replaced from working car, still no spark
7. Performed ICM input test (per Helms manual)- all voltages or connections OK.

However, somewhere I remember reading that there should be fluctuating voltage comming from ECU to distributor, on YEL/GRN wire, should be aprox 10V after the car starts. since my car does not start, there is no 12V on that wire comming from ECU.

Can somebody verify the following: when ignition is ON (II) there is or should be 12V on YEL/GRN at the ICM and when the car is running, it is a pulse signal from ECU, approx 10V magnitude (maybe a flashing test with 12V probe as discribed here, page 5:
http://www.team-integra.net/sections...ArticleID=1116

so far my car is dead. it turns (starter is OK) but does not start.

At this point I have no clue how to continue and any input would be appreciated.( could it be dead ECU, OBD2 P75- are those ever reported being bad??)

T.

Very odd to see bad untampered ecu's, has your car been in heavy rain or flooding, has your ecu been summerged in water....Check all your grounds, remove your starter and do a bench test. You are the only guy I seen on here, to actually use a manual and go step by step good job...Also check your timing when a belt goes bad, this can throw off your timing, and your car will not crank, after a few attempts your ecu shuts off spark to prevent you from injuring that head due to timing.

Yeah, check the t belt, did you swap whole distributers or just the ignitor. Either way make sure the dist rotor is turning. I have seen the tangs break of the dist drive. Usually happens when the dist bearing starts to seize.

Check for spark. Or if you have access to a complete dizzy swap it out and go from there.

thanks for ideas,

Swapped the dizzy- still does not start. and the thing is rotating,
checked the top dead piston position, it matches the marks on the cam gears.

still no spark.

as a last resort-ordered another ecu, since all other points are already checked and verified.

this drives me crazy.

Sounds like you're on the right track...hopefully the ECU will solve it. Good luck man!

if all fails ... CHECK THE GROUND! can be as simple as one ground cable becoming disconnected to make the car not have spark..

would you clarify teh statement "check your ground" ?

ECU is grounded, engine is grounded (or at least they beep when I measure with multimeter to the chassis)- what else needs to be checked for ground?

Found the problem - timing belt snapped.

(could not see the distributor rotor not rotating since I was cranking the car, and the friend was checking the light, he knew nothing about rotating part. when I did this test again myself, and buddy was cranking, it became obvious the same instant.
Anyway, many thanks to all of you for the feedback.
