Default What to do about this harness bar?

I need to load this thing on a trailer in, what, 10 days now in order to drag it out to Expo and after taking a month to install the damn thing, this is how I pick up my car today from getting my roll bar installed:

So, first of all, who the hell does that? Especially after I specifically said that there would be 2 (two) seats in the car, and was told just not to bring the other one.

OK, so, now what? I can either have the harness bar cut-off and redone, or I can fit the passenger seat in there (possibly) and just run the shoulder straps to different lengths. Obviously I'd rather do the first, but time is a factor and maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Safety people, what are your thoughts on this?

Safety? cut it out and do it properly. That's a weird *** bar design anyhow; the whole thing.

Aside from the harness bar, it's just a basic 6 point. Unless I'm missing something, there's nothing alarming about the design. I'm not really qualified to critique the welds, but they look OK to me. I said no to a diagonal because nobody requires it at this point.

No way am I taking it back to them... I left with it because I didn't want them to spend another month trying to fix it. If I have it redone, I'm taking it somewhere else.

Your life does. That harness bar needs to be cut out and redone correctly and a diagonal needs to go in there if you expect that cage to do anything other than crush you to death in a rollover.

OK, sounds like my fears are well confirmed, I sent an email to Piper to see if they can get me in.

piper does great work. and FAST. they had my rear cage finished in a day. they are a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. $90 per hour for labor.

Piper will do the work properly, BUT also keep in mind (if you have someone else do it) that most professional organizations with a ruleset (NASA, for example) requires that all safety equipment follows their rulebook/CCR. In other words, if you have a cage, it has to be legal, meaning it has to have a diagonal.

Also, since you're a track noob, you WILL need a passenger seat for an instructor to sit in. I don't know what the policy is (if one exists to begin with) on 1-seater cars for that event.

Absolute worst-case scenario: cut out the bar, run stock belts.
