Default Zero Deck height B18C1

Well I am building a legitimate combination for my race car since the tech inspectors at my local track have become aware of my LSVTEC setup and would like to see me change it out for the 1000$+ to win events otherwise I risk being dq'd for the external oil line which to them isn't "stock". I have a b18c1 block that I was thinking of how to make the most power utilizing stock components. I was leaning towards the CTR pistons but they didn't come in an integra so that rules them out. I was thinking along the lines of the p73/p72 pistons and getting the deck shaved to 0 deck height. I was wondering if any of you fellow engine builders had any experience with this and if it is worth it. I am utilizing a B16 head with RLZ valve job/resurface and a type r manifold/throttle body, JDM 4-1 header, and a custom intake with stock air box. I also have to run OEM cams so I will be using the ITR cams I have. If anyone knows any tips/tricks to gain anything anywhere all using stock componentry let me know I am all ears.

GSR crank with p72 rods shaving the block to raise compression lowering the deck height to 0". Just trying to post a feeler to see if this is a worthy modification. I know the cams are very mild being stock ITR, and stock valves are used so there shouldnt be any valve clearance issues.

Scratch decking the block and using P72 pistons. Save that margin for hot days. Go with RS machine err.. ITR pistons, GSR rods and crank. With A RLZ valve job, 0.002" bearing clearances, and "used" oil and water pumps. That configuration should push just north of 190 whp. Also, you can port match the IM and TB.

Honestly, these builds are the most fun because of the OEM limitations. If you really want to get serious then you could re-work the oil pump and clean up the block oil passages.

Why not just buy a new oil pump. They are fairly cheap and you'll never have worry about it.

You don't have to worry about it now. Because it's "used", it's mildly worn. This will free up some parasitic loses. It's a old SCCA trick for OEM modified engines.

i like it when the pistons are flat w/the deck.

a little in the hole drops compression a good bit, mill it and you're good to go. you may have to adjust the cams to get em back in the right spot, so idk how that falls into your rules.

if the motor never blew up reusing the oil pump will make a few extra hp, i never use a new water pump.. none of my mess see's enough miles to wear one out! haha

If you can deck your block then 1.0 mm is enough to push ~ 11:1 CR. However, if this is a class rules event then that amount will certainly be more than the service rebuild and may be illegal.

LOL....

I'm pretty sure he is referring to "piston-to-deck"

Thanks for the input, I was looking at purchasing some RS Machine pistons but the "Race Axis" web site wasn't working and the phone number is disconnected. Does anyone know another place to order RS Machine P73 pistons?

Thanks, I pmed them and sent them a message on their site and tried calling. Next I might send a smoke signal or buy some inferior ebay piston.
