Default engine pinging and shift linkage prblem b17 EG swap!!

well it sounds like my engine is pinging
im not running a knock sensor and i dont want to ruin my engine
im running 91 and i thought it would be ok
my setup:
b17 block with p30 pistons
jdm b16a head
CAI AEM
ngk iriduim plugs
and thats about it
i was thinking its my timing and maybe even the sparkplugs
any of you guys have ideas?
also
i swapped my shift linkage it bolted up and everything but the only problem is that my shifter doesnt line up in the floorboard hole perfectly
when i put it in first it hits the right hand corner of the hole
and its also very sloppy
what should i do?

You've got the 90-93 teg linkage. It's just a bit short but works. you need the 94+. You should have set the timing when you got it running. you raised the compression and now need to retard the timing a little with a stock ecu.
