Default ECU and Clutch questions

I just bought a 96 GSR, my goal for this car is going to be my daily communter with slightly more power. I am thinking to go OBD1 instead of OBD2 ECU. Is OBD1 plug & play or do I need get 94-95 harnes for it? Will it pass smog?

For the clutch, the clutch seems to be nearly out, everytime when I shift in each gears, especially 1st gear, before the engagement the car and clutch rattles like crazy. But no grinds on any gears. If I need to change the clutch, I am thinking of ACT stage 1 kit with ACT Prolite Street Flywheel or Exedy Stage 1 with EXEDY Lightweight Flywheel. Exedy seems like a little cheaper. What are you guys opinions?

you'll need a obd2-obd1 conversion harness to use a 94-95 ecu. get the new ecu socketed and chipped, and just use whatever software your local tuner has. if your engine is close to stock, you probably won't gain a whole lot by tuning. as for the clutch and flywheel, you can't go wrong with exedy, it's quality stuff.

Thanks for advice, I just bought OBD1 ECU, I guess I'll resell it then. I am trying to keep this car as stock as possible for daily commuter. Since I got an evo 9 that needs the tune.

why are you reselling it? it's easy to install the ecu. you can pay somebody to do the socketing and tuning for you. there's no power gain from simply installing the older ecu, if that's what you were thinking.

and reason why, I was thinking to get OBD1, cuz I had a 95 GSR 2 yrs ago, it pulls stronger than this one.

jux get a P28 Ecu n chip it
its a obd2a ecu i think
kinda forgot but thats wat i got
n i had to use a obd2b to obd2a harness
works n runs great
u can also make vtech kickin anytime u want too
jux make sure u put it to where u want it to kick in wen ur program the chip for the ecu
i had mine at 5,000rpm
u can also do other things too
like no red line
or make it bog out after 8,100 rpm or where u want it
u can also make it to where it tells the car how much air n gas to go in
n iono bout the others with chiped ecu
but mine had this lil kool thing that i like about it
cuz wen u reach 8,100 (thats where i set it to bog out) then the check engine light flashes, its kinda like a light that flashes to tell u wen to shift
haha

also see: the p28 doesn't work with the stock gsr intake manifold because it doesn't have controls for the secondary butterflies. also, using an obd2b-obd2a conversion harness, even if it exists, won't allow you to use an obd1 ecu. let the people who know what they're talking about do the talking

i don't remember where exactly i bought the conversion harness but it was from an h-t sponsor i'm pretty sure. i paid around $80 for it a few years ago. just look around in the sponsor marketplace.
