JDM Bronze glass on EG questions...
I'm thinking of getting some JDM bronze glass for my EG. I know that you can tint the rear sides and hatch as dark as you want in California, but I think it can only be 30% tint on the driver's/passenger's side windows. Is the factory bronze tinting on JDM windows more than 30%?
Also, is the full windshield also tinted? My buddy's 10th Anniversary RX7 (USDM) came stock with bronze glass all around which is why I'm asking.
Hmmm, now that I'm writing this all down, I'm also wondering if this glass is DOT compliant...I'm thinking not?

Great...thanks!
My friend with the RX7 wants to get replacement bronze glass but the last hatch he found was over 1K(!) Glad they're a lot cheaper for the EG.

Yeah, I know that you can't tint the front window with aftermarket tint, but does that mean my friend's stock RX7 (bought in CA) is illegal? I called him and asked...he said that it's not illegal since it came that way originally (the 10th Anniv. is the only RX7 model stateside that came with bronze tinted glass).
I suspect that the cops won't notice the bronze tint since it's so subtle, but it would really suck to get a fix-it ticket for the windshield. :/

Since it's not stock for this country it's not going to pass. I would not be surprised if you got a ticket for it.
I have the JDM bronze glass for the driver/pass. doors that I removed from my JDM SiRII doors and the tint looks light to me. Kinda looks like a windshield in a smokers car after a short period of time. I'm also thinking the windshield isn't DOT approved being that it shatters into very small splintery pieces. The windshield I removed from my clip was a nasty mess.
keep in mind that polarized lenses in sunglasses(which are issued to police) can detect even the slightest level of tint on a window. Take a pair of polarized lenses if you get a chance and watch traffic. You can see front window tint from a mile away.
Sorry to being this back from the dead but I'm wondering if there is anyone that makes a bronze tempered us regulated (dot) front windshield? I have gone thru 2 jdm windows and I can't bring myself to get another... They crack so easily!!!

Not for EG.
I've got a bronze EG windshield now, but so far I've been lucky. I know that the Acura Vigor & Legends had bronze windshields though, not that this helps any.

If the rest of the car's windows is tinted then it would be hard to tell if the windshield is tinted also. It would create the inside to appear dark and a cop wouldn't notice a light bronze tint.

If the windshield had regular tint, a cop would most likely notice. The bronze tint has a better chance of fooling a cop.
The dumb thing about bronze tint is that there are American cars that have bronze tint all around. Acura Legends and Vigors, the 20th Anniversary Mazda RX7 have bronze tint from the factory.
I've had bronze tint on my car for months and have never garnered any attention from the cops.

All the tint I've seen on US vehicles that came stock with bronze tint was pretty pale. It was extremely evident it was there, but it wasn't "dark". So if your state doesn't allow tinted windows, you could get in trouble, but if your state allows tinted windows, you'll probably be fine.
I agree that they hassle us more often than they should, but growing up in LB and seeing numerous cops shot at in the 80's and 90's, I really can't blame them harrassing someone with tinted front windows. Not saying it's right, just saying they created the law for the safety of law enforcement, although that's not saying that law enforcement abuses that privilege.
I have a JDM SiR Ferio, it has factory Bronze Tinted glass. It's so light you cant even tell its even tinted really, pretty sure you should be OK with them if they're as light as mine are.
We have a 35% limit on our tinted glass here (all glass except front screen) but I'm a bit reluctant to tint the glass with the bronze tint just in case it goes over the limit.

The bronze tint on a JDM window isn't any darker that the US bronze tint. If you have just the bronze windshield, it's obvious it's tinted, but it's certainly not "dark". If you have a full set of bronze glass, as another poster noted, it's hardly noticeable. Very subtle effect that I doubt anyone would hassle you over. Especially since the USDM vehicles with this kind of tint are no lighter than the JDM tint.
