Default Metal clink coming from the shifter?

It seems like everytime I go to switch gears, right before I put it in from the neutral position, there is a sound like metal rubbing against each other. There is very little resistance that it is causing, but it has never made that noise before. Could this be something to do with my synchros? It's mainly just 2nd and 3rd gear. Thanks.
