Doubt it, only way to really get the drown out of the car is to change the axle back.

Do you have a resonator on it? If not, the resonator makes a hell of a difference, and if you search around im sure theres parts that are made to "muffle" the sound of your exhaust.

Im running the n1 on my R with DTR headers and a resonator and its quiet as hell at idle and cruising speed. You jump on it though, and it gets a bit louder ;]

the silencer defeats the purpose of the muffler. N1 style mufflers are more free-flowing and louder. If you are looking for "quiet" then don't get an N1 style exhaust.
Instead of spending all that money on a 60mm "JDM" exhaust, I'd make a custom one. at least 2.5 inch mandrel bent piping (I'd go with 3 inch piping) with a decent sized resonator to a free-flowing muffler (Vibrant, Magnaflow, ES oval)..

Do you have a cat? If not, that will help and take away the annoying raspiness.

the noise isnt from the muffler
the sounds coming from the header where it connects to the exhaust
it gets real loud inside and makes u deaf

I have a similar setup with the exception to a JDM 4-1 header and i am currently running a JDM cat. The damn thing is loud as fawk! But the system does give you nice gains, i am still deciding if i should swap out the exhaust or not (too loud for me, even as a weekend toy)....thinking either mugen TL or the RM01A.

Are you sure it's fully connected? Maybe you're getting a little bit of open header action going.

He won't need a 3" exhaust

If he does more mods down the road it will help. There are enough dyno plots out there showing gains with 3.0 inch exhaust on 1.8L builds.. If you don't believe browse in the AM section..
