Default B16 safe for turbo?

Is the B16 strong enought to hold boost? I just realised how high the compression is....low compression is better for turbo....I might be better off with a B18 then...decision time!!!

Where can I find this info? I did search around, but most say high compression is not good for turbo. Can I put in different pistons to lower the compression and then slam a turbo on it?

Thanks for any info.

Get you a good book and you have a lot of reading to catch up. Maximum Boost is awesome. I have a b16 and here is my list

GE sleeves bore 84mm
JE pistons 9:1
Eagle Rods
Cometic head gasket 0.036mm
Head done by Port Flow
Ferrea package, over size valves .5mm
Open Combustion chamber to match 84mm bore
Gsr cams
Skunk 2 cam gears
Vict X manifold
DSS stage 3 axles
ARP head studs
Action clutch(pro)
Quaife lsd
ACL bearings
Balance bottom end
And many more i can't remember to list all
B16 can make you hp if you do it right. My goal is 450-500hp
I'm still looking around for a good turbo(a good price i mean)

hey Ltech, i know it is hard and painfull to collect your receipts, but i wonder how much the motor work had cost you? that looks like a damn good set up.
which turbo are you looking for? and how many PSI?
good luck with it, that is my goal as well, have a A3 boosted with a moderate level.

i was just thinking about this Garret T3/T25 turbo i just saw on ebay. it's selling for $200, hour left to bid. I wont jump on it but it got me thinking wether or not a non built b16a like mine would hold 8psi no problem and make a good 40hp?
I would probably need bigger injectors, intercooler, piping for the damn thing.
any insight? anyone done it?
p.s. tell me to search it and i'll bitch slap yo ***

yes i have heard about this also. But i think so many ppl here just want to run pump gas and not worry about really tunning it to the fullest so they just drop compression and call it good.

Yeah the high compression of a B16A combined with a turbo does not like pump gas. Of course, it depends on how much boost your putting in!

Higher compression = more power, boosted or not. If that's what you would call 'better'

As for the B16 itself, it's ready for a turbo. I mean, all B-series motors have nice beefy rods, and strong pistons.

You might be safe using pump gas if your running no more than 6 psi intercooled? I really don't know, that's just a guess....

cant ya just keep buying octane booster and add it to each tank religiously? doesnt seem like that big of a hassle to me, just add's another 5$ per tank (if you buy a box)

isn't a stock b16 safe at about 7 psi. what i wonder is, does the JDM b16 with 10:4:1 hold boost just as good as the U.S. in stock form

I'll tell you one thing, my friend had a t4 on a b16 (2nd gen) and blew it up within a week on 5psi. be careful running stock b16s with boost. make sure you are tuned! I'm not making the same mistake.
