just got the teg today. its a 91 coupe, gs. 158,xxx miles on it. drove about 100 mile round trip in it, and the cap and hose in the overflow bottle blew out. twice. i didn't lose any coolant, just what was in the little hose, and no overheating at all. why would the overflow bottle be able to build that much pressure? from where? any help would be appreciated.
You might have a bad radiator cap, there is a valve on there that is suppose to release pressure, that's why they are maked whith either 0.9 or 1.1 on them, if that valve goes bad then you build up to much pressure, just be glad it wasn't a hose or something else...Go get you a new one!
I would check your cap first, but I had my head gasket starting to blow do that same thing. I finally blew it completely and then it made sense why the coolant bottle was doing that. Do a quick compression test or if you have the tool and compressed air do a leak down test and see if you get bubbles in your coolant.
Worth a shot. Good luck.
