Default urgent help needed

ok so i have a 96 ek hatch and i bought the car a week ago and it is hacked it was an auto but it is now a 5 speed. heres the fun part ....... so the car has an automatic harness on it and its running off an ls ecu. it has a d16 y7 motor in it and there are cut wires and unplugged connectors everywhere the wiring in the passengers door is all cut up and hacked. so it was raining today and i drove it on the drive i suddenly lost power could not rev it at all it would bog down and die. 15 minutes later it was fine. tonight i went to get in my car and i heard sparking then the car stalled. by now im freaking out. start the car again and i cant rev it at all. every time i press the gas it bogs the lights are flickering and it just will not run.i know most people are going to say change the harness and ecu but i can not find a stick harness. but could i have caused more damage to it by driving it in the rain? (the car ran and drove before today) i need help and if you have any questions ill answer them but this car is my life line please help

find all the gay wires and tape them up, dont let any touch the chasis or another wire. then see what happens.

yes that would be your first bet it may have been okay but when it got wet it increased the continuity and allowed it to short on the frame or what not and know it 's got a good path. Going through all the wiring soldering and shrink wrapping all the wires was the first thing i did when i got my car.

Wire grounding to another wire thru the water.

and again, X2 to Joelmatt's suggestion.

Shrink wrap and solder.

Thats about it tho. You just have to start pulling harnesses, and wireing them up correctly.

Or replace them with some good ones from a parts car/junkyard .

As mentioned, you need to seal up the cut wires or replace the harnesses. In the meantime, check for blown fuses under the dash and hood and avoid water. Based on the dimming lights, start by checking whether fuse 15 under the dash is blown.

so, you paid how much and bought this car why? For driveability issues, i would start with the correct ECU for the motor thats in the car. Not to mention the aforementioned taping up of all dead-end wires until you find out their use.

Since its all hacked, make sure your grounds are there, intact and on a clean surface
