blown head gasket??
when i get on the freeway and drive for about 5 mins my engine over heats. i changed my thermostsat, flushed the radiator and i have no visable leaks. could anyone give me a good diagnosis, i wana get this over with, im tired of driving on the freeway with the heater on, i need ac!
You didn't install the thermostat in backwards, did you? That can cause you to over heat. Yes, a blown head gasket will cause you to overheat, as well. Have you been adding coolant regularly? If you have then you probably have a blown head gasket. Quickest way to find out if you have a blown head gasket, look at the coolant overflow bottle while the car is running, before it gets hot. If you see it bubbling in there, then the head gasket is blown, and the head is pushing combustion gases in there. Also, take your rad cap off, crank it up and let it run. If you see it bubbling in there, then yes, your head gasket is blown.
ok yea i was wondering why i had bubbles in the radiator. but i didnt see any coolant in the oil or any oil in the overflow. so i just wanted to make sure because i didnt wana pull my head off then find no damage lol
Yeah, if you've got bubbles in your radiator, then your head gasket is definitely blown. If and when you do your head gasket, make sure you take the head to a machine shop to have it checked, to make sure your head isn't cracked or warped. Good insurance.

Depends on the machine shop. I don't know what the going rate for resurfacing a head is, now a days. I haven't been to a machine shop in a long while. Maybe 50-60 bucks. I dunno. One other thing, since your head gasket is probably blown, it's a good chance since you've been over heating, that your radiator is toast. When you over heat, your radiator can swell, because air expands a lot more under pressure than water does. When you have low water in your radiator, what is left in there, will turn to steam, when the air inside the radiator is heated up, causing the radiator to swell at the sides. If that happens, you'll have to get a new radiator. Better replace your upper and lower radiator hoses, too. Preventative maintenance.
