Icon2 type r dimaond in the dirt-shell for sale or not?

O.k about two months ago I was on my computer an ran into a 2000 type r for sale....The price was too good to be true. I hauled butt in my RSX type s to go see this car 2hrs away. Well upon getting there I inspected the car and the very minor damages. The guy told me that the car was a rebuilt. I have never bought a rebuilt nor did I plan on doing so. The owner's dad handed me the keys, 10 minutes drive by myself and it ran perfect so I altered my plan. The plan was to buy the car, sell the motor, tranny, suspension with gunmetal rims, interior and then junk the shell even though it was in fair condition. Yes the price was that good. After paying for the car on the spot I started the journey back home with my wife following closely. Let me say, I have never drove a type r before but i have owned 2 DC2 GSR,s, many civics even a skyline R32 GT-R. No other car that I have driven felt so perfectly balanced. It felt like a go-cart on steroids, the weight transfer through corners was so smooth. Well I dove it for a another two days and then parked it in my garage under the car cover that was intended for my wife's car.....I might be in love with the handling of this car. Well here is the BIG question. Should I part it out and make my money back or should I paint it and ride till the wheels fall off?

Hey Bro do what makes you happy . If you like the car keep it, if you need the money or feel that the car is not for you than scrap it. Just make sure you research before making any rash decisions . Remember one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you scrap a what seems to be a very nice R, you're and idiot. Don't destroy a car like that for some side cash, sit on the car for a minute, you might find the fire to pick up some small parts here or there. Hell even after a while you need cash or something sell the car, don't destroy it.

Scraping it would be like slapping God across the face, type r's are becoming more and more rare. And if you got it for a screaming deal, fix whta little it needs, and drive it or sell it and make some money. And you already like the way it handles, so why not invest a little into a car that's dwindling?

But if worst comes to worst, don't scrap it. For the type r lover in all of us

And trust me, you won't regret it!

A lot of you got the wrong Idea from my post. The point I was trying to make is that I had never driven one and now I understand the big deal about these car. The hole scrap the shell idea was before I drove the it. The only thing about this car right know that bothers me is the fact that the title says rebuilt. I have already removed the entire interior and engine for a rebuilt. I am on the fence on weather to just fix the very minor body damage or do a full restore. My insurance company has made it clear that I would only get half of the true value of the car. With only 47xxx miles on the clock this car is really in good shape. I most mention that If I was going all out I would have to go in and fix the area that was repaired earlier (driver side front section). It was not done to my standards. The car looks good from the out side but if someone opens the hood and really start looking closely the evidence of a previous wreck is there. Anyway I will post pics soon. If I had decided to part it out I would not have broken the marriage between the original engine and frame. Same goes for the center arm rest that says INTEGRA TYPE-R 00-0061.

IMO, if you enjoy driving it that much, why sell it? You'll likely just end up missing it and buying another one so it seems like a big waste of time. Fix it right and drive it, or resell the whole car, with a rebuilt motor, and buy a clean accident free car.

They are great cars, and I've yet to find anything that provides the same driving experience, including 911s, elises, s2000s, etc..

There is no ponit in selling the car if you enjoy driving it. If the damage is not severe, I will repair it enjoy it. Hwever, you do sound like one of those people that requires perfection in your toys, from that aspect, maybe you should just sell the car complete and get another one that has a clean title.

Glad you've moved away from scraping the shell...that'd be a waste.
Just drive it and enjoy. Don't put too much into it other than wear n tear items and maintenance. Since you got it for a good deal, I'm sure insurance will cover you on your costs if something happened. If they won't, **** them. Get another carrier or get a stated value policy. Also, get creative with your security to help prevent a total loss claim

GL and enjoy.

Well I spent a good portion of my day today trying to find the side skirts that I see on many of the type-r's out there. I call the local Acura dealer and they said the part was no longer available for replacement. They went as far as to call the their head office to see if there where any in the system state wide and they came up empty handed. Does anyone have an idea on where I can get my hands on a set of oem skirts. I really would rather not use a replica, they usually do not fit like OEM parts. The body shop will be picking the car up this coming Monday. They will put the car on the rack and check the frame, straighten it if needed thought I suspect the frame is fine. Second we will be stripping the paint from the exterior and repainting it in the original color (Black NH-592P). The rims are not in bad condition but they have a few minor scratches. I did a research on the rim color code and two codes keep popping up. Does any one know what the exact color code is for the gunmetal 15" is?

Click "manage attachments" and a new window will pop up. Click "browse" and find a picture from your computer. Then click "upload."

When you say side skirts, do you mean the standard equipment skirts or the Acura optional "accessory"/body kit skirts?

I mean the optional ones that come up the side of the car. As I do more research it seems that I will never find a set of OEM ones so I may just have to do without them.

Where is the manage attachment button. It is not showing my screen. Maybe its because I am a new member and I need to get past the test period.
