so i just go my crx and it had some problems with the clutch when i got it. the problem was that it had a hard time going in to gear when it wasn't moving (took a lot of force and once in gear the car would buck a bit as if it was partially engaged). i figures the cable was just stretched out being that its a very stiff racing type clutch and i have hear that can happen. so i changed the cable and the problem was solved for a couple days. then the exact problem came back and when i push the clutch in there is a rattling noise. i just figured that i didn't have the cable tight enough and that one of the bearings was starting to go bad. not really a big deal i plan to change the trans as soon as i find a b16 one rather than the LS it currently has and would change toe bearings then. so to try and fix the problem until then i tightened up the cable and took it for a test drive. all was well for a few shifts and then the hard shifting started again and i could smell the clutch. i limped it back home popped the hood and there was a good bit of smoke coming from the vent for the clutch and the slight rattle is now a nasty squeal. what do you think i broke or did i just tighten to much? thanks for looking.

it sounds like the clutch isnt DISengaging to me.. I found out the hard way however.. that if the cable is too tight.. the t/o bearing will actually push the 'fingers' on the pressure plate in too far and it will grind against the clutch disk..

no worries.. its interesting because when my clutch whent out (getting onto the freeway none the less) the same thing happened to me.. it wouldnt go into gear.. but when you think about it.. the clutch surface (or lack there of) has nothong to do with shifting.. and I havent been able to figure it out to this day.. sounds like a DISengagement issue like I said before.. I just thought it was appropriate to your thread..
having same problem hard shifting while car is not moving i notice when putting on my fork and throwout bearing my fork was shaved off some bit where the 2 fingers on the throwout bearing goes and it wasnt holding it right so im wondering if dat is my problem but while driving it shifts good

im sure its either the fork or the bearing. my bearing was so bad it wouldnt even turn but the fork was fine. pull it apart and see whats going on, its only going to get worse.
