greddy timing belt issues
i have a greddy timing belt. Friends of mine have alway jumped time a tooth and a buddy 5 and bent all the intake valves. they all had stock belts. my greddy one i can't seem to get tight enough. i was turning the motor over to build oil pressure so i can start it for the fisrt time. i stopped and the timing belt was lose. i never had the problem with stock belts but i wanted to insure i avoided the risk. any input would be great. i have alway heard too tight is bad but im thinking not. please help
I never believed in those Greddy Timing Belts. OEM is fine.
You have a new tensioner? Tensioner spring is on there properly? You tighten the tensioner enough?

A word of caution.
When I was working my way through college as a cylinder head machinist, I came across quite a few B vtec heads in which the bottom of the cam journals closest to the gears, as well as the top the caps for the cam journals furthest from the gears were all wore out. In each case the customer had used a pry bar to "tighten" his belt tensioner.
Too much tension on the timing belt will **** the cams in the saddles and cause irreparable damage to the cylinder head.

Just fired up the fresh ls vtec. it was a beast p&P sk2 cams, sk2spring retainer, pro 1 cams. itr piston. well i drove it for about 6 blocks to the gas station. filled up and drove another 6 blocks tried to let it idle at a light. it died so i tried to start it, but nothin, it tried to start then so i let the clutch out and pop! intake valve are bent!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so f*ing pissed!!!!!!!! its was tight no lie... there was almost no slack in the belt.
