how do i find out what year motor i got?
alright i got a motor that came with the car that i bought but its not the stock motor what i want to know is how do i find out the year of the motor. do i get the vin# off the block then what would i have to do from there to check what the year is of the motor please help me out.

spade you are the man thank you so much! now one more question how do i find out what car the motor came out of? and CDM SIR go **** yourself i asked a question that i was in need of and you had to reply with something stupid that wasn't even funny, and 17's do not rule. please do not try and come back with another stupid reply. i'm serious about the questions i'm asking, if your not serious about your reply then don't reply. thats all i ask

Take it to a musem and have them do a forensic test. Mine came from the cretatios period.

Look at the block, there should be a number, (something like, B16a or d16y7)..if you tell us that number, we can better judge what car the motor came from.

also the VIN number on the block if there is one can tell you which year and model car the engine came from...look at certain stampings..wiring..pistons..thos can give u a possible idea of what year engine it is if it's a stock block and untouched or modified

you can also look on the head where there are 4 circular stamps,(they will be partially covered if you have a heat shield,) but the first one says the engine year
