Tuning my 98 GSR turbo, which computer? Need help.
ALL UPDATED ON 3rd POST.
Ok here is what I am running into. I have a 98 gsr so the wiring harness is an obd2a i suppose. I have an obd1 distributor in it with internal coil.
Engine specs
b18c5 bored to 2.0
9-1 pistons
b18c5 head
sc61 turbo
AEM 3.5 bar
rc 750's
64mm tb
Now the deal is i can get the engine started with the stock p72 ecu in it. I have an obd1 p28 with an s200b installed which is supposed to be tuned for the engine, will not start with this ecu. I also have an AEM EMS 1000 and an AEM EMS 1020.
I guess i need to know which would be best to use, i want to use one of the EMS's but should i use the OBD1 or OBD2a? Also needing info on where to get the program to build a basemap.
Sorry for all the questions, first build ever using a computer in the car. . . i have always done older cars so this is a learning experience.
Thanks
Jim

The AEM you can tune by yourself without the need for the romulator, license, etc. I would must rather have an S300 and sell all the other stuff though. The AEM is not the best to learn on at all. If you are stuck on building a basemap, I am not sure you are up to the task of learning the AEM on your first attempt. If you are stuck on it, download the manual and learn how to use it. You can get a generic cal file and then building off that or start from scratch.

many other site worth reading and learning. We all started somewhere. Now learn EFI and go build another domestic car too so you can really see the benefits.

Well i have been doing a lot of reading now. The manual is 217 pages long, which sucks haha, but i have gotten to the point where i can get the engine started and it runs with the gas down. if i let off the gas it will not idle. I have changed the high and low rpm idle points as the manual suggests for getting the engine to run and idle, you are then supposed to adjust down from there, I am still having no luck with idle.
The strange thing is the car starts, idles and runs fine with the stock p72 in it. Wondering if my unit is bad or something, seems like the injectors or ignition cut out after it runs for about 10 seconds.
I set the throttle correctly on the configure menu,
I set the timing where it should be, its at 11.83 advanced, timing mark looks to be right around there as well.
any suggestions?

I'm suprised you can run your car with a stock P72 with 750cc injectors and a AEM MAP sensor. I can see how it could, but you're lucky with that particular injector size and MAP sensor I guess.
If your motor is new, I would suggest taking it to a tuner before you damage something.
If the motor is already broken in, I would suggest reading through several how-to's for setting up base maps on your tuning software before even attempting to do it to your car.
