Default Mostly new to tuning and have questions please answer nicely lol :)

Ok I have a 99 civic ex and i want to tune it up. Don't wanna be a ricer i want speed and hp. I've done a lot of research on tuning but would just like an opinion from someone who is seasoned with this. First of all I think i need to swap my engine, what type of DOHC engine has a reasonable price and where could i get it, also what are the worries with passing inspection in the US state of NC if i get a jdm swap. Next if someone could just tell me where to go from their i mean i know i need exhaust, headers, already havea aem short ram, but whats next a turbo?. Thanks a lot to anyone who replies i really appreciate the time and help
,Cole

UPDATE: Ok if your reading this now i've read a huge guide on engine swaps and decided to get a b18c1, and feel like im about to get hit by a tidal wave lol SO much information still to learn, but im getting their, need more clarification on the emission part and switching from an obd2b to an obd2a i think and also how easy is it to fix the inspection problem thanks again guys!

How much money do you want to spend and how much speed and HP do you think you want/need?

Every state is different with their inspection requirements, and I am not familiar with NC. I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine.

i would reccomend you spend some more time researching until youre able to answer all your own questions in this thread before you go throw money away. that way 3 yrs from now you dont look back and say "damn, if i knew then what i know now"

What year vehicle do you have? Is it newer than 1996? In NC the only thing you have to worry about is passing the OBD2 scan, assuming your car is newer than 1996.

If it is older than that, all you have to pass is the safety inspection, so in that case pretty much any engine swap will pass.
