Calling all you alcoholics... needs E85 help!
hey there,
i am in the process of getting parts together to boost my S2000, and i have always wanted to run e85, but was never really an option because we never had any local stations that sell it. Well lately a few stations around here now stock it and thats what i would like to run, i mean its pump race gas, why not right? i am planning on using a walbro intank pump, and bosch (injectordynamics) 1000cc injectors and shooting for 450-475ish whp on a gt3076 and equal length topmount manifold. with that being said, is a upgraded fuel pressure regulator needed, or will the oem ap1 reg. be ok. do i have to upgrade the fuel rail or fuel lines? any insight from the people that have done it would be great!

I cannot answer your question about the FPR. You can use e85 in a mostly stock fuel setup. I run a Walbro 255 mated with 550cc RC's for my NA setup. You need 30ish% more fuel opposed to gas so plan for that when you purchase injectors.
My friend runs e85 in his upper 600hp s2k without any issues. Search "e85" on here, you will find ALOT of info, not necessarily specific to s2000's but it can be generalized to all automotive applications. Look in the NA and forced induction sections, you will not find much in the s2000 section.

What are you planning for EMS? AEM? Hondata? As for fuel, 30% more is about right, not 10%. You'll want to upgrade your FPR and rail at least, with the pump and injectors. The lines will be alright.
As stated, you use about 30% more fuel working with E85 as opposed to standard unleaded fuel.
With your goals of 450-475HP you will need larger injectors, 1000cc wont cut it. I would suggest 1600cc. Also the walbro 255 will be pushed to the limits with this much fuel. I would suggest a dual intank walbro setup or the walbro intank with an additional helper pump (walbro works but I recommend a bosch 044) installed in the engine bay.
There is no real need to upgrade the fuel rail or FPR, especially if you aren't going to change any of the lines. A pressure gauge is always very beneficial. If you are going to add a gauge or inline fuel pump you might as well do all the engine bay ines and add the FPR while your doing it. After all it's only 100 bucks or so for a used aeromotive FPR.
Change your fuel filter at the time you switch to E85. Also change it again about a thousand miles later. The reason behind this is ethanol actually keeps your fuel system cleaner than regular unleaded gas. In dirty fuel systems, ethanol loosens contaminants and residues which can/will get caught in your fuel filter. Because of this you should change it out after the switch as well
E85 runs cooler then unleaded, so you may end up going with a heat range hotter plug then someone with the same setup on unleaded. You should let your tuner decided the best plugs for you to run at the time of your tuning session. Always bring a few new sets with you!
Another thing to know about E85 is that it absorbs water much more so then unleaded. I wouldn't recommend letting you car sit for extended periods of time with the gas in the tank. As such, more water can get into your oil so make sure you stay on check with your oil changes. No need to increase them, just keep up on it. Also know you can't just go fill up a drum and keep it at your house for fill ups.

see its hit or miss, Jeff Evans and Joe at Locash racing both say a adjustable FPR is needed, while Tony Palo says that the OEM is fine.... i dont know what to do lol... i want to hit a max of 450whp, and all 3 of them say that it will be fine with the ID injectors and a single 255... it will be tuned on AEM by Tony at UMS
It's a custom fuel setup thats capable of supporting well over 700hps... idk the specifics, but not oem lines.
I Run oem lines on my E85 equipped civic. I have noticed some black, gunky build up coming from the injectors... seems that a little rubber has dissolved from my oem lines and make its way to the motor. Idk if I am going to replace them or just run it this season.
