hey guys,
i'm looking to replace one axle nut on the passenger side. driver side is perfecto, passenger side is imperfecto. went to a honda dealer today and they brought out nothing but silver nuts. they said honda doesn't make them in gold anymore. i know my brother has one extra one laying around somewhere in the garage, but his are from a crx. does that fit my car? or should i go ahead and buy 2 silvers and replace out both of them?
i called around for labor to replace the nut and found one as high as 30 bucks and as low as 10 bucks. one shop offer to do it for free! the rest are between 10 and 30.

dont think it'll matter if its gold coated or not as long as it serves it purpose. by the way how can we help if we dont know what car and motor is in it. also what motor was in your bro's crx? d or b series. not sure though if both types of axles use the same size nut. as for labor you can pay $0 by doing it yourself. jack it up, take off wheels, replace nut.

i don't have the right equipment to take those out.
all you need is a jack, lug wrench, hammer, punch, torque wrench, and a 1 1/2" socket w/ maybe a breaker bar. but the nut is peened in the axle end groove so take a punch and hammer to peen it out so you can take it off. after the new nut is tightened down it has to be torqued to 134 ft/lbs before peening it to the groove. it's pretty simple even for the mechanically inclined

what would you do if you were in my situation? buy two new silvers? or go to an after- market parts store and buy one gold?
i really appreciate the help, but i really need to get this done by this week. almost impossible to get all the tools together that you've mentioned.

BTW I made sure the 1988 CRX SI your brother has uses the exact same spindle nut as your 1992 CX by comparing part numbers at http://www.hondapartsdeals.com

Advance Auto/Autozone will loan out the tools you will need...and I think they carry the axle nut as well...might be a gold one there.
and yes, jackal6042 is correct. they all use the same size axle nut, except if you have the type r 36mm axles...you're good man. just replace them with the silver ones, or whatever ones you find. just make sure it's tight on. gl with replacing them on. it's simple. no need to pay someone to do it, just get the correct tools and you're set
