Hey im trying to fix my cousins civic. i dont really know a whole lot about hondas so hopefully you guys can help. he was driving home and as soon as he
got into his driveway he ran out of gas. when he put more gas into it it wouldnt start. it now has about half a tank of gas. it is getting fuel to the rail. i found it wasnt getting spark. i already tried to replaced the coil and it was not the problem. what else should i check?

 

Does the CEL remain ON when the key is turned to ON(II)?

Next check whether the timing belt broke. Look into the oil fill hole while a buddy cranks the engine. If the rocker arms don't move then the timing belt snapped.

If the timing belt is fine, then remove the igniter unit in the distributor and take it to an auto parts store for testing. It may be bad.

 

no the cel goes off after a few seconds. ill check the belt. any other suggestions for what to check. i dont have access to the car to often. so i want to do all the checks i can while im there. also its a 1.5l(if that matters)
