Clutch problem!! And stealership bs??
Hi everyone, This is going to be a length problem but hopefully someone can helps me. I've been having problems with my clutch lately. What happens is that when i press down on the clutch, put it in reverse or 1st gear, then i'll get ease off the clutch(a little) so it grabs and the car moves a little, then i'll re-clutch and brake. After I do this, I can no longer shift out of gear and after i step off the brake the car will automatically go forward or reverse with my foot still fully on the clutch. The only way to fix this problem is to either turn the car off and shift it out, or until i release the clutch all the way out and accelerate fwd or rev. Also the clutch is as light as a feather when this happens. I can drive normally and I know how to avoid this problem. The clutch also still grabs very strong.
Anyways here's the next part, I took it to a vietnamese auto place which is a friend of my parents friends and they know somewhat know each other (so i doubt they'll pull bs on us). The head mechanic drove my car and after just 2 minutes he told me its probably my master cylinder and slave cylinder and that my car is only at 36K miles and the clutch is still strong. He quoted me $80 on the Slave and $150 for the Master cyclinder and around $100 for labor. Anyways after we went here we remembered we might be still covered under warranty at my stealership. So we went here and they told me to leave my car there for 2 days. Now he calls me back today and tells me most likely its my Clutch being worn out and tells me that they'll have to drop my tranny and examine the clutch and the fee for that alone is $900 bucks and if I want to fix it then I'll also have to pay for the fee of the clutch and installation....
So wtf is this ****?? Any knowledgeable HT members that would be able to diagnose my car based on this info and also if you would call BS on this situation also from the dealership?
Thank you ahead for any response that you guys can give me!!

Thats what he said in the beginning when we first met him. He said if the problem is with the drive train then Honda will cover up to 50K miles...and isn't the clutch and anything relating to the clutch considered part of the drivetrain? When he called me earlier today he gave me no indications that they'll be covering it, he kept on going on how much everything will cost, clutch, labor, etc. When it comes to these kinds of things I always get burned back then so now I'm keeping my guard up...So thats basically my problem I think you are right saying that it is covered under the drive train warranty but why is this service guy giving me no indication of this now (besides when I first met him).
Also if anyone can also maybe diagnose this problem based on their experience, if it is the Master and Slave cyclinder or if it might be the clutch (I'm at 36K miles and I've only used it for commuting to college back and forth, I've probably only redlined it literally 40 times since I've owned it which is 3 years now)

Thanks for the responses, I went there and told the service guy thats been helping me that. He's been insisting that its my clutch today and basically I told him have you taken my car for a test drive. He responds and tells me that he hasn't and that they just did a visual inspection of the car. I tell him let me talk to whoever is your head mechanic and I'll replicate the problem for him. He proceeds (but reluctantly) to ask for the head mechanic and we go for a test drive. The head mechanic after 2 minutes driving told me that it is indeed possibly my Master and Slave cylinder but the only way for him to tell for sure is to bleed my clutch and put in new clutch fluid and we'll know basically from there. We go to the service person thats been helping me and the head mechanic asks him if he has checked this yet and the service person says no he hasn't and tries to act like he didn't know about this "service check". Anyways I'm pretty pissed off right now about the service person trying to tell me that they had to drop the tranny to inspect the brake for a fee of $950 and this comes after leaving my car there for 2 days when the head service mechanic looked at my car for 2 minutes and diagnosed an easy and FREE way to check if its my master or slave cylinder. BS dealership... never go here
Update on this is... we told them straight up we're going to take our car to another dealership and get a second opinion and that we're not going to pay the $950 bucks to drop the tranny to examine the clutch. The service guy then backs off a little and tells us that he'll waive the $950 and that there will be no charge anymore. This is after they said they bleed the clutch fluid twice and there were no improvements in the master cylinder (I'm not sure if they did...). So he tells me they're leaning towards the clutch now but are still not sure if it is but if they get to look at it and if its still not the clutch then it'll be covered under warranty and they'll take pics of it and send it to honda and go from there.
-On a side note I just want to know if what he is saying is true also since I'm not as knowledgeable on this stuff. The service person told us that the problem is not the master or slave cylinder because even after bleeding the clutch twice there were no leaks anywhere and that there was still no significant improvement on my problem. I'm just wondering if its possible there is something wrong with maybe the internals of those components (master & slave cylinder)? I asked him about that but he told me if there's no leaks then its not the master and slave....

Ok, Thanks for verifying that for me. Hopefully the problem is what you say it is and it'll be covered under the 50K miles warranty.
