pic of steering lock disable, DC2 Integra
Hello,
First off, thanks for all of you that put the information out on Honda-Tech on how to disable the steering lock. I would have took the whole ignition apart if nothing else.
The 3/8" drill bit method is great, fastest and slickest way to do it. I read about this on several threads, but didn't see any pics about it. Even though it's simple everyone loves visuals.
Here's the hole, and I have the spring just hanging from it. My hole was just a touch off center, so I had to pull it out. Otherwise, you hit it dead on and that spring will fall right out.
This is a pic of a 97 Integra GSR.

And if you didn't read about it before, just take a 3/8" bit and drill a hole in the center of the brass-looking disc under the steering column. It's even dimpled in the center to help with your aim. Remove the spring and you're set to race. Just don't go nuts with the drill and go farther than you need to, I heard of some people killing the ignition in the process...

Thanks. I can't take credit for it though, there are several other threads mentioning this method. I just included a pic for a visual, I didn't see any other posted.

If a thief really wants to steal your car, they'll brake the steering lock, window, etc. if they're crude about it. I had an older 94 Integra RS that was broken into so they could steal the OBX CD player out of it—the window glass was worth more $. Of course if they want to look inconspicuous carrying around a cordless power drill while they're scouting vehicles that would be interesting to see. If there's more than one thief, your vehicle is history regardless.
An issue of SportsCar or Grassroots magazine shows how to disable the steering lock in a Mazda Miata using a drill and a sheet metal screw.
This is the road racing / autocross forum isn't it??

SCCA/NASA require the steering lock to be disabled/removed on most track vehicles. This is for towing/safety reasons if there is ever an accident or off-road excursion. Pulling a vehicle out of the way in a hurry with the front wheels stuck in one direction is difficult if you can't lift the front end. Also, attaching a chain to one end of the car and pulling is faster than lifting one end of the car with a wrecker.
