Default civic transmission

Hey im looking to purchase a 5 speed manual transmission for my 96 civic HB with ZC engine.

Is there any way to test a transmission to see if it is any good? Been looking on craigslist but i do not want to buy something and find out it is broken.

Also does anyone know of any places in the tacoma area within maybe 25 miles that is pretty cheap for transmissions?

Once you get the transmission or before you get you can spin the crank and see if it rotates freely. If it doesn't, something is wrong. To see if it's in good working order you have to either open it up (you have to understand how it works, mind you) or install it on the vehicle and see if it works.

Be careful when buying from eBay. I bought what was supposed to be an EX transmission but they sent me a DX one. I returned it and they never refunded my money. So be wary.
