cap and rotor differance

I went to kragen today to buy a cap and rotor for my 96 civic dx. They said I need to know what kind of cap it is, I said its a d16y7 engine but they said there are 2 different types of caps for them how do can you tell what cap you have? He told me the 2 names but I forgot haha

I bet they meant there are two because one for Vtec (D16y8) and Non-Vtec (D16y7). Some of their systems allow them to see both options and I hate that. Why not get it at the dealership instead?
