i want to hear your guys opinions on what you would do if you were in my situation
i got a good running b18a in the car now and just picked up a high mileage b17 that runs great as well
i was thinking about rebuilding the b17 and leaving it stock for the bling and rare factor but it has crossed my mind to build a ls-vtec or b20vtec and go for max power since i dont drive it everyday anymore
maybe sell the b17 shortblock to help fund it
or can i get decent power out of the b17 without loads of cash

what about b16 pistons in the b17 block
b16 stroker? .....should make close to 200whp with cams and all
i was thinking of a high compression lsvtec also
but
i would like the vtec bottom end so i can rev the snot out of it and not worry about an ls bottom end that might blow apart

you can get 200whp out of a b17 but you're going to have to spend some money to do it. Do you have the money?
A "high compression" LS Vtec....what do you call high compression and why do you want that for your LSV?
What's more important to you, high compression or power and reliability with ease to tune? Are you aware that there are people on this board that "rev the snot" out of their LSV's? it can be done, but you need to know what you want.

reliability first and foremost ...max power second
i have money to spend and i am in no rush to slap something together as i have 3 other vehicles
and i mean higher than stock compression maybe 11.5 or 12 to 1 no higher
i dont mind using premium gas but i dont want to have to use race gas or anything higher than 93
i was thinking about goin b20vtec for the extra torque but i am scared of the thin sleeves and do not want to spend the money to get it sleeved
or would it be ok as long as i stay NA

those "thin" sleeves are only a problem if you're running boost. For most all motor builds you don't need to sleeve that block. Keep your comp level around 11.5:1 and go for the torque.

one main reason i wanted to build the b17 ^^^^
i know i could get more power out of a lsv or b20v but the b17 would be baller!
i hear they are harder to come by than a type r motor so i think i may do a stock rebuild on the b17 and leave it alone

it all depends on the type of build and what your goals are along with knowledge and how much $$$$$ you got to spend
so why you jackin my thread!!
i was asking personal opinion on what a person with experience that has built a few engines would do in my situation
i have two engines and a few different options on how to build it
and i want to take the best of both
anyone else .....what would you build?
17's aren't that bad at all. i personally have an lsv in my DB2, but thats only bcuz a set of forged b17 rods are $800.....

i remember witnessing a friends midly stripped DB2 run mid-low 14's @93-95mph back in 99' (dc 4-2-1, 3" sri, 2.25" crush bent cat back

If I had the B17 sitting around and had the cash, I would build it. There are not all that many out there, so I would bring her back to life! I don't have one laying around, so i am building an NA LS-VTEC.
But the best of luck to you whatever way you go, they both have there up's and down's.
