I have a '96 ek3 civic with a d15z6 engine and i'm having a few electrical probs. firstly the engine check light comes on and at the same time the econo light stops working and i assume that the econo mode stops working as well, the check light come on afetr a few minutes driving and after restarting the car usually has gone out. secondly as the revs increase the engine feels as if its hit a wall and there is a sudden hesitation at anywhere between 40000 and 5500 rpm. once the engine is passed this it will hit the limiter at anywhere between 6000 and 6500 rpm. the engine is stock uk spec and nothing has been changed. the car was stood unused for a couple of months and then had a new gearbox and service. it then started doing this.

i've never had electrical problems on a car before and don't really know where to start, also i'm new to forums so hope all the above makes sense. any ideas or help would be very much appriciated.
