cost to replace a clutxh
I have a 97 base model the car won't go into gear without a little pumping of the clutch pedal changed slave cyclinder still does it I was wondering the cost for a shop to replace the clutch
Obvious questions, but i'm gonna ask them anyway. Before you replaced the slave cyl, did you check the fluid level? Always start with the very basic, easy stuff. Check for any leaks, anywhere? After you replaced the slave cylinder, did you make absolutely sure that you have no air in the system? That will give you hell. Check all the basics first. It depends on what shop. An independent shop will be cheaper than the dealership, but the dealership will have everything you need. At least as far as oem is concerned. I know the dealership gets a bad rap for being more expensive, but hey, Honda pays a lot of money to train us. Yes, i work at a Honda dealer. I'm proud of it, too. I worked hard to get into one. I can tell you off the top of my head, it's probably gonnd run around 8-9 hours labor for the clutch. I think. Not sure what the parts will cost you, but my shop labor rate is 98.00 an hour. I believe that's with tax included. Clutch kit might cost you a couple hundred. Maybe. I dunno. I don't do many clutches at Honda. More auto trannys than manual clutches, but the times are pretty much the same. You still have to pull the trannny's either way.

I was a little high on the labor. I had to go back and check it on the Honda network. It's 4 hours warranty time for just the clutch/pressure plate. That translates to 6 hours for regular time. That's a little better. I'm still uncertain about the price of the clutch. Parts handles that, i just fix them.
It costs way too much ($700-$1500) for a shop to install a clutch or timing belt in our cars. Your best bet is to find a friend who is also a mechanic. If you don't have any, take a case of beer to your local mechanic and make a new friend.
I just got a new clutch kit and flywheel off of eBay for 251.00 shipped (). The local shops in my area are charging me around 350.00 to 400.00 to install it.

The shop i was gonna use is really really really good. They are like a cheaper version of the dealership. They insist on all oem parts.
Yeah, but remember, it's still not the dealership. I can't speak for every Honda dealership out there, but my dealership takes pride in what we do. We don't rip customers off. We take the time to explain to them what's going on. We have a very high CSE. I think that stands for Customer Service Excellence, or something like that. There's a reason why dealerships charge a higher rate than independent shops. Dealerships have all the necessary tools, equipment, manuals and tech training that the ind. shops don't. Honda spends a lot on training, research and development. Their name is on the side of the vehicle. There's a reason why Honda's have a very high resale value. That being said, i know a lot of DIY'ers wanna save some money and not get boned by the dealer, but not all dealerships are out to rape you. There are a lot of, put it in your *** and break it off, independent shops out there, too. That's the industry and automotive standard. Just like in any line of work. There's good people and there's bad people.
Lol....Thats way too much, buy a manual and do it yourself, its an easy job w basic tools and a general knowledge of cars.

check for leaks at the clutch master cylinder above the clutch pedal. could be leaking and causing not enough pressure on the slave. Also, if you put a new slave on you need to bleed it properly and it takes awhile..
If you've ruled out both of these and still need a new clutch I would recommend buying a quality stock replacement like Exxedy and find someone who knows what they're doing and pay them instead of having a shop do it. Gonna cost you close to a grand at a shop and thats ridiculous. Do it yourself or under the table.

f*ck getting **** off of ebay if you really care about your car... I just did my clutch a few months back and ended up getting the whole kit (exedy clutch, flywheel included) for around $500.. i think the site was called clutchcityonline.com, im not positive but it was something along those lines
but yes definitely make sure your hydraulic system is functional before dropping all the money to replace the clutch, the last thing you want is to get it in there and find out your still having the same problem...

Ive gotten mine from grip-force clutches.....i just looked and the price is up 2 96+ shipping, but hes super legit w over 54000 feedback score 99.8% positive.he ships fast,i was getting mine in 2 days....but were both in cali,so idk.
hey i changed my clutch recently on my 94 prelude it cost me about 530 including the seal in there and master cylinder+ resurface flywheel..if you get brand flywheel gonna cost you about 100 more..so i say you just the clutch you want bring it to the shop. its cheaper that way and tell them to put it on.
Mitchel flat rate for a clutch on a 5th gen.
base model is 6.5hrs, & Type SH is 8.6hrs (because the ATTS has to be completely removed)
I went with real main seal R&R because it's behind the flywheel, and you should change it anyway at the same time.
Without changing the rear main seal take off 3 tenths.

hey everyone, im new to this forum. I have the same problem but its only with my first gear. I have to pump my clutch 2-3 times before it goes into gear. on top of that my clutch feels a lot lighter(softer) when u push the pedal. the last time that happened i had to bleed my clutch because i ran out of fluid but this is not the case this time. do u guys think i need a new clutch?
