Default Need help on y pipe

I need to either make or buy a y-pipe. it has to be 4" to 2.25" Y. doing this because i cant run 4" over my rear axle beam, so im gonna do dual 2.25". let me know if any of you can make this for me. unfortunately i dont have a bandsaw at the shop, orelse i would give it a try. thanks

material i would need it in would be 304 stainless.

How fast do you need this? I should be able to help you out. It's going to have to be laser cut though. Talk to me about it if you are interested.

Strictly from a mathematical point of view, going from 4" to dual 2.25" pipes will restrict your flow by almost 40%.

4" pipe = 12.5 sq inches area
2.25" pipe = 3.9 sq inches area x 2 pipes = 7.8 sq inches area

If you have the space, consider going to dual 2.75" (or 3") pipes in order to not restrict the flow.

wow really? not really a mathematician bu from a logical stand point. it seems that 2 x 2.25 pipes would flow more then a 4". i could possibly fit 2 x 2.5" pipes over the rear axle beam, but anything more then that isnt going to be possible.

You're logic is flawed

Larger pipes have exponentially larger flow. You need to compare the area of the pipe, not just the diameter.

Consider going to dual 3" pipes, and then flattening it out slightly (oval shape) as it goes over the rear axle.

Is the application putting out insane HP? You'd probably have to be north of 700hp for a 4" exhaust to be necessary in the first place.

If not, don't worry about it too much, just use what fits.

how low is your car? The axle beam doesn't move much when you have stiff suspension. Something like a 1:4 ratio with wheel travel.

I know several VR and 1.8 turbo guys that have 3" over the axle beam with no rubbing. I bet two 3" tubes would fit if you got crafty. You took the heat shields out right?
