Default grinding after new clutch/synchro's :S

hello guys,

please help me with some insight please!?

this winter i installed a new oem 2nd gear synchro and gearspeed 3/4 gear synchro's.
i also installed my CC stage 4 6puck and CC lightweight flywheel.
stiffened up my mounts (kinda solid)
problem is, since a few days i got it trough emissions and í can roam the streets again. i'm very busy installing the last parts for my n2o setup that will take me into the deep 12's (stockengine).

since today i drove my car hard again, eagerly trying out my new synchro's and clutch/flywheel combo.

I'VE MISSED MORE GEAR CHANGES TONIGHT then in the 2 previous years with stock everything!!!
i'm very sad right now!!!
i've FTS´ed for two years now, with minor synchro wear, and now with `better´ synchro´s i´m grinding almost every gear when FTS´ing :s

does anyone know/recognize what i might've missed/done wrong/forgot to do.

i'm always very precise in reassembling, but maybe someone recognizes this?
do you have to break in synchro's or something??? maybe adjusting clutch???

please help, a friend of mine wich i've replaced his synchro's/clutch/flywheel/mounts has the same problem.....

i'm flabbergasted

I think you should have just bought new selectors for what ever two gears grinded 1&2 3&4 and rarely 5&R selectors. You should have just used the money from the gear speed syncros and bought oem selectors cause they come with new syncros. I've made this mistake before too.

the clutch line was never opened, so i did'nt think it was neccesairy to bleed it, i'll look at the bolts...
i tried adjusting the pedal trough the haynes manual but it's unclear how to do so.
engagement is somewhere in the middel of the pedal travel (my friends car the engagement is higher but he's got the same problem, first i tought he was overengaging his clutch, but now i have the same problem)

you mean the sleeves that slide over the synchro's?
i'm starting to think that too now, but......i did not expect it to shift worse with the new synchro's

b18cR with a LSD S80

how can you find out if it's fully disengaging/overengaging???

you should try motul trans oil it called {motyl gear 10w40} this stuff works wonders for 2nd gear grind in a normal trans sounds like you might have somthing else going on.
but check it out because the wrong fluid will cause all kinds of problems.

if they'd only make a 1/5 gear synchro'd 2-4 dog teeth dogbox
with 1-4 straight cut, 5 gear normal and normal final drive

i'd sport it as my daily

(i drive dogboxes on my job all the time, i love them )

I had a CC stage 4 that did some odd things. What flywheel are you using? Did u have it resurfaced?

I was using an aluminum flywheel with mine and it would completely lock me out of 2nd at high rpm. Changed it out to a CC flywheel, and now I just have a slight grind going into third. Seems like their puck clutches are finicky

you might want to check your pedal adjustment, its posible that you are simply over throwing the clutch by pressing the pedal down too far. (this works the "same" as not pushing the pedal down enough)

if youre syncros were bad that also means the syncro springs were bad and if those are worn flat then its going to grind no matter if you put new syncros in it anyways.. how did the dogteeth on the gears themselves and syncro sleeves look?? if they were bad they should have been replaced as well.

did you get these from syncrotech with your new syncros you got from them?

i suspected that might be the problem combined with my lovely CC 6puck+flywheel.

dogteeth on the gear looked fine, the sleeve had some rounding off at the teeth, synchro teeth looked new and synchro's where within factory spec.
gears where slightly grinding when slamming it, now if i shift at 8000+ i have to ease them in or else they grind.

synchrosprings where not available back then trough gearspeedinc.com (only in complete sets)

i had little knowledge when i bought these, and when i assembled everything i did not have time to wait on parts from overseas.

i only did not expect it to shift worse then before :S

I would go with Dave on this one... After i put in my new clutch/Tranny i would grind 3rd and occationally miss a gear ...we brought the clutch engagement further to the top of the pedel and after that it was great! now i can shift much faster and it doesnt grind...Same clutch as you too...

i just had my tranny rebuilt, All OEM though..new 3/4th syncro/slider/sleeve...from what ive seen with the 3 trannys ive been through, the Syncros dont seem to ware as much as the Sliders/sleeves do...my 3rd gear slider was soo bad my friend couldnt believe it would actually shift ...

Adjust the pedal, see if that helps. If not swap out clutch with a different brand. We had this issue with another clutch company after a trans rebuild. After pulling the trans down 4 times, Hond finally said there might be a defect in gear 1 and 2, but we weren't going to play the hope Honda is right card, we swapped out clutches as well with a different clutch company. Problem went away after that. Who knows what really fixed the issue, but after you ripped down a trans 4 times for free, you really don't care at that point.
