Default testpipe, few questions....

alright no one smash me on this, and i did do a search, and please remember, i am a newbie, in other lamence terms if at all possible.....

1: what is a testpipe
2: what does it replace
3: on a scale on 1-10 how hard is it to install
4: are the gains worth the money on a stock (see my sig)
5: how much does it run
6: what are some reccomended companies
7: how does a test pipe work

thankyou, sorry for all the newb questions, its like disease, once you start asking, it has to be cured with an answer, thanks guys

getting it 10gsr, right? what are the gains? does it make a nice sound, or a f'ed farting sound? or does it make any sound changes at all? Is a testpipe a good change out for the cat, or is there somethign else in that same pricerange that is better?

well, its highly illegal, if you have emissions testing, forget it
it usually makes a hollow sound...but with a full stock exhaust and header you probably wont even notice the sound change

i gained 2 mph in the 1/4 with it...which is a lot, but of course my engine puts out more power than yours so gains would be different...

is it really noticible though? I mean, if you look down, can you see it? or will it just look like a regular exhaust, and actually have to look under the car to see it...

plus, when i have emmmisions testing just replace it with my stock unit, right? no welding or nada? looks like a bolt on to me.

Also, i do plan on changing out my exhaust in the future, will i have to get a new test pipe? I mean, its not expensive or anything, just wondering.... thanks

edit: where is a good place to buy them?

its not easy to see, you really have to get underneath the car to see it

yes, its just bolt on, pretty simple

if you get a pipe made for your car...then a aftermarket exhaust will bolt up just fine

no, pepboys wont order it...

and a muffler shop wont usually make you one because they could get in trouble for doing so

tools? just a socket...and some jack stands to get under the car

mine is like 2"diamter which is plenty big enough for the stock components...and is the same as my dc sports header outlet...

oyea, few more questions, im guessing im gonna endup burning up more gas, ut anything else, like oil, if i get a testpipe would i have to due a oil change more regularly, and i would i burn more oil? would i have to keep checking to make sure im good, or is that just if i endup racing or something, that i would have to keep on adding oil?

I have one for sale. Its for a 91 Accord EX, never got a chance to put it on my car. $55 shipped to wherever you are.. And if you feel nervouse about cops a little trick you can do is have someone take off the shell of the catylic converter and put it around the test pipe so it seems like you still have one there just in case, which rarely happens, someone checks..

That is the only thing. Unless you have a hookup or live in a area that it doesnt apply then you wont pass emmisions.. So this particular mod is not made for everyone, however you will see significant gains along with a slight increase in exhaust volume/tone..

but for emmesions testing, all i would do is just save my stock unit and replace it whenever i had testing, come to think of it, does CA, have testing, ive never gone, and i have this car for +2 years, would that be worth the time and effort, switching like once a year, if i even have testing....?

I guess it would be worth the effort. They also have special brakets that allow for instant swaps. Just lip a couple of levers and pull the test pipe out.

It will be louder and more annoying and smell really bad.

You can fabricate one yourself working on logic. Or summit probebly has something.

I agree, but you will also gain only 1-2hp. It is not worth the money it takes unless you have a highly built motor, or are using FI, otherwise, it is a waist of money contributing to the bad health of the population.
