Default Question on Skunk2 cams

Well Im pretty much building my jdm gsr and have a couple questions, i have already bought ctr pistons with a skunk2 valvetrain along with a skunk2 intake manifold, type r tranny and was wondering if skunk2 stage2 pro series cams would be ideal for a dd civic? oh and was wondering what the compression would be like with ctr pistons and if 93octane would still be able to run the car thinking compression might be to high no clue. In advance thanks.

Why did you purchase CTR pistons if you do not know how it will run on your motor?

FYI, P30 pistons have made more power than CTR's pistons, in the builds I have experience with.

As for your question, if you can find a good tuner (hint, DFE-ENT is right down the road from you) Pro2's will be fine. If you are tuning yourself and are a novice, or your tuner has never dealt with Pro2's before, your results will probably be bad.

DonF probably wouldn't even put that combination together without EXPRESSED written documentation that it is SPECIFICALLY what the customer wanted!

OP, Do yourself a favor and ditch the CTR Pistons. Pawn them off on someone else (preferrably with a B16 head) and use something that will make power for you (i.e. P30 or P73-00).

well i bought the pistons off a buddy for hundred bucks brand new in the box thought it was a pretty good buy and had a set of p72 rods laying around. So instead you guys recommend p30's. Tru i think i kno were your getting at here instead i should probably run some itr's instead.itr's have less compression then the ctr's which is roughly mid to low 12's.

Even with 93 here in FL the C/R will be one problem for DD, but with that aside I'd make damn sure you check for clearances between your deckheight and head if you go with these.

The CTR's have a heigher compression height which has been known to cause piston to head contact easily when used with the P72 head where the piston meets the quench area in the combustion chamber. This espeacially becomes a concern if the block has been decked.

I'd sell them and go with ITR's, my $.02

Buying parts without fully researching how they will work in your planned package is ALWAYS SUCH a good idea!

The resulting Compression Ratio is NOT the problem. Go ahead and use them. Maybe you'll see what the problem ACTUALLY is.

The best way to get an idea on what kind of power you can expect with just about any combination is to scroll through the 20 someodd pages of the AM Dynothread at the top of the forum.

I'm sure theirs quite a few B18C motor's running Pro1's & 2's, check it out...

Yeah I was impressed because you listed having a DC header, I had to look at it twice. Good work!

Now....THAT all depends on WHO is doing this work for you. Who is doing the VJ & PnP? Who is building the engine?

Don't expect a novice builder to get the power out of these parts that an experienced builder & head porter can get.

Bro...if it were me.....I'd pack up my engine sh*t, and take a drive to see DonF in Jacksonville. He's one of the best builders for Hondas you'll be able to find. You're SO lucky he's within a 3 hr drive of you. When you talk to him, have your mind ready and remember EVERYTHING he tells you....and count yourself lucky IF he agrees to work on your project. BUT...DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU GO. He has a "NO STUPID SH*T" policy.

HAHA....even a BLIND Squirrel finds a nut every now and then!

I'm willing to bet the build would benefit from a different header. Your build just shows that the DC CAN support some HP.
