What is dual vtec that you speak of? And wth is a hatchy? obd-2 to obd-1 jumper harness for starters. And search.

My brother just did this swap on his 98 Civic EX. The only way to get the Dual Stage VTEC to function the way Honda intended is to get the JDM ECU for the car. Otherwise, if you are running a P28, the engine will be in either 12 valve non VTEC mode or 16 valve VTEC mode. If I were you I'd just run the car OBD II with the JDM ECU because then you don't have to run the car improperly nor swap injectors or distributor. In order to make the Dual Stage VTEC in that case work, all you would need to do would be to run a wire from the second solenoid to the correct pin on the ECU. Don't forget to run high test in the JDM engine because it is a higher compression engine. Good luck.

how do i get it to run in 16 valve VTEC mode for now ?? just hook up my p28 and use the solenoid that has the green and yellow wire?

and my dizzy didnt fit so i think ima have to re-pin the obd2 dizzy??

Your in over your head mang, you should have got the single vtec. Goodluck wiring everything up and finding the JDM ecu for that engine.

So you have a 1.6 Vtec single cam, and now your swapping it out for a "Jdm" 1.5 Vtec single cam.

Reason?

Yep. I can understand swapping in an OBD1 D15B Vtec to replace a blown Z6, nice simple direct swap. But the OBD2 3 stage D15B Vtecs are pain in the *** unless you have the corresponding ECU.

Just swap the Dual Stage VTEC solenoid for a USDM D16Y8 or D16Z6 VTEC solenoid and run the P28 ECU. From what I understand, the engine will run in 12 valve non-VTEC mode until you reach VTEC in which the engine will run 16 valve VTEC mode. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm wondering thee same thing - swapped my d16y8 with a d15b obd2 into my 97 civic. Only reason I changed motors was b/c it was damn near impossible to find a low mileage d16y8 around here....

since your obd2 already you just need to get the right ECU for that motor and just wire the second solenoid

I can use the one that came with my D16y8, right? And just wire the second solenoid to it?

Any idea why, after swapping, my idle would surge when it warms up?

your idle should be normal if you use the y8 ecu your gonna be running 12 valves and then once you hit vtec your gonna run 16v vtec if you wire it to the solenoid with the green and yellow wire. if you wire it to the redish one your gonna run 12valves and then 16 valves non v its weird how it works if you want it to work right your gonna need the right ecu for it

I have this running in my 97 EX with a P2P ECU but it's stuck in 12v till 5500K where 16v VTEC hits. I know I should run the JDM ECU but it's impossible to find so in the mean time I'm going to be running a VAFC2 to switch 12v to 16v at 3500K. I hope it works... SO the red wire is the 12v to 16v solenoid?
