OT: Process of Buying a car from other State (back to PA)
a bit OT, I know.. but thinking that 20K a year for my R is a bit too much..
so...
I am looking and might be getting a 2nd car from NJ. (I live in PA)..
Never done this before, so what's the step?
the seller said that I should bring my own plate just to drive the car back here(since he's keeping his plate for his other car)..
I am buying from a private seller, so what do I do? give him the $ in front of a Notary, bring the car back here and register it in DMV, do inspection? do I need to have insurance 1st?
Help me Dear H-TechERS...

Call your insurance first and let then know.
Next, bring your plate with you and drive it back.(If flying, don't try to carry on the plate)
Just have him write up a bill of sale when you buy it.
I'm not sure about inspection but if you need it, take it his local dealer for an inspection, call ahead and set that up with them.
I bought my car out of state. Wasn't a big deal, even when dealing with the loan.

I drove up to PA a few months ago and piced up my R...I went to dmv here in VA and they gave me transport tag (3 day), I had to notify my insurance first before they would issue the temporary.
I'm in Pa and I bought a car once from Toms River, NJ and I just threw my own tag on and drove it home. It may have not been "legal" but it's not the end of the world either if for some reason you should get pulled over on the way home.
I would not over complicate this, just get it home, and call your insurance company.

If you have the vin and the other necessary things, you should be able to just get a temp tag from the fast tag places here in PA.
Call one, and ask them what you need to do....they do this stuff for a living and would be able to consult you better.
Cheese~

This is what I did when i bought my ITR from PA and lived inf FL.
1) Had dealer fedex all paperwork & finance crap over (I paid PA state tax)
2) Signed and fedex'd all paperwork back
3) Flew out to PA friday morning
4) Signed the rest of the paperwork (final signature)
5) Wrote out a check for my down payment
6) They gave me a 30 day temp PA tag
7) Drove home that night (18hrs straight.. hell yeah)
8) Monday, went to local tag agency
9) Local tag agency transfered the title to FL
10) Local tag agency then figured the local FL tax on the car and it turned out to be less
11) Got a new FL tag and FL title (copy since bank hold org.)
12) Recived a check for the 500 bux extra I had to pay for PA tax.
13) Went to insurance company and changed policy.
Since I already had a 98 GSR (totaled it) under my insurnace policy, they just told me to get the new car, and they will change the VIN number. Nothing else changed, I did not have to bring the new car in, since it is basicaly the same, and my cost did not go up

Pay the tax in the state that you register it! Its no big deal. Make sure you go in front of a notary to get a bill of sale notarised. Also check your local DMV to see if the Title also has to be notarised.

I would check with your insurance company. When I got rid of my ITR and picked up the GSX I bought it in NJ. NJ offers temp plates, but MA does not accpet them. Needless to say I picked up the temp tags and drove the car home, but I also took the risk of having the car not covered by insurance. The kicker in MA is that even thought I had proof of insurance and a binder the car cannot be covered by a MA insurance agency unless registered with the MA RMV.
That may have been a little hard to follow..Just make sure all is OK with your insurance company.
