Default All the Different D15B's?

Ok, I'm googeling everything and find a lot of people saying what D15b do you have. some people saying theirs a v tec one and a non v tec one why is this?

I thought if it said D15B it automatically means its a JDM V-Tec?

And so how many different ones are their?

So theirs only 2 different ones? because i got lucky and found mine at a junk yard, but mine had a weird old skewl looking head on it and a cable tranny.

When i put my y8 v tec head on it i had to remove the oil jet for v tec.

Well I'm asking because why when i picked my block from the junk yard did it have a non v tec head and the oiil jet was closed on the block. and if i remember right i think it had pm3 pistons. and shouldn't all JDM D15B's have po8 pistons?

D15B -> Dual carbed non vtec, essentially a dual carbed D15B7, I believe these also existed in a multiport fuel injected version which would be identical to a D15B7, you probably have this.

D15B -> OBD1 SOHC Vtec (this is the one most people are familiar with)Same P08 head as a D16Z6

D15B -> OBD1 Vtec-e, Same as the D15Z1 VX engine

D15B -> 3 stage vtec

All of the above engines are stamped simply "D15B"

D15B without any number after the B is JDM. If you see such a D15B in the states, it came over from Japan, having been purchased by a used engine dealer who sells engines to those doing swaps.

The D15B will be either vtec or non-vtec. If your valve cover has the spark plug holes on the front side, then you have VTEC. If the plug holes are on the aft side, then it is non-vtec.

A non-vtec D15B, when it was being driven in Japan, was dual carbed. When it is shipped to the U.S. for re-sale, it is typically modified to MPFI (or DPFI), meaning the aperture on the aft passenger side of the head has a block-off plate held in place with two bolts/nuts, and it has an MPFI (or DPFI) intake manifold and throttle body. The camshaft on the non-vtec D15B has an extra lobe on the passenger side. This extra lobe once drove the dual carb'd mechanical fuel pump which was mounted at the aforementioned aperture.

I started a writeup comparing the D15B7 and non-vtec D15B at http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com...15benginenotes

I've had a D15b non vtec in my Civic before. It was OBD-0 and I used my OBD-1 parts to make it work.

I had a JDM D15B SOHC Vtec in my CRX back in the days. It was a blast to drive. Anyways I have linked an article below about the JDM D15B Vtec engine if, you want to read up on it.

I have found that locating detailed specs on certain JDM engines, like this one, is a tall task. If forced to bet, then my money would be on the D15B non-vtec's pistons being PM3, because

--this is what is in the D15B2 and D15B7
-- the D15B2 and D15B7 (and other D-series engines) have the same bore and stroke and are also non-vtec
-- my D15B non-vtec head has PM3-8 stamped on it.
-- at least one internet forum post elsewhere said D15B non-vtecs use PM3 pistons.

From a manufacturing efficiency standpoint, I can't see why the D15B7, D15B2 and D15B non-vtec would have different pistons. I guess the best confirmation would be stumbling across someone who has torn down one of these engines and has personally seen what is stamped on the pistons. Or a junkyard may offer the same.

's for all the high fuel economy nonvtec D15B tuners.

I bought an OBD1 JDM D15B head from someone... how do I tell if it's the VTEC or VTEC-E? No valve cover.

Maybe try turning the cam gear and watch the valves open and close. I know on the D15Z1 heads, only 1 intake valve per cylinder opens all the way, the other just moves a hair.
