Default Problems changing alternator in '90 lx sedan

Alright, well i bought the car for $250 and the only thing that is holding me back from driving it is the alternator.

So i go to change it this weekend and the bottom bolt is completely rusted on. Every other bolt is fine except this one, it sucks. Ive tried using rust buster, then wd 40, pb blaster, i tried heating it up with a little propane heater, used some vice grips and all i am doing is rounding the bolt off.

Anybody have any other tips on how to get this thing off? I dont wanna damage the stud, could really give 2 ***** about the nut though.

Thanks

Hey, same problem here. Are you talking about the inside one or the outside one? Soak it in PB Blaster for a week, do it everyday. I bet it'll come out

If its that damaged you could always cut it with a torch, and just buy new hardware for it...

I guess its the one on the outside? its when you take the left front wheel off then the splash shield and its the bolt on the botton.

Yeah i was thinking about a torch, but i dont have access to one at home. And since the car has a bad alternator i would have to tow it to a garage since it most likely wouldnt make it

if the nut is off which i assume it is. use MAPP gas and heat it up the end f the bolt with the threads on it. use a small sledge hammer and a nice size punch and drive the bolt out.
When you do get the old one out, cover the new bolt in axle grease so it dont size up again. If ya need a new bold and nut i have one here

and this might work also but it will take for ever and be a bitch use a 14 mm wrench and remove the bracket that holds the alt in place. then take it somewhere to remove the bolt.
you will need to turn the 2 bolts little by little but it will come off, remember this will take a long time lol

Get an easy off tool from sears or a hardware store they bit into the bolt or head of the nut and allows you to take it off. It will be a pain where its located but it will come off. Then go and buy a new bolt and nut.
