Default Distributor Advance

I bought my 2000 ls with Crower stage II cams. The car only runs good on advanced timing. When the distrubutor is in its normal position there is a lack of power in the low rpm range. The timing mark on the crank is aligned and the cam gears are aligned. What could be the reason why the car runs at an optimum best with advanced timing?

Any drivability experts out there with tips?

Larger cams, more air, more advanced timing.

The correct way to do it would be to set the dizzy back and actually tune the car.
