striped valve cover bolts any easy fix
ok so i took the valve cover off to paint it, and putting it back on noticed the bolts were striped. the guy i got it from must not of had a torque wrench. Is there any easy way to fix this, i was thinking JB weld in the wholes so the treds have some thing to grab. If this happened to you what did you do, i know im not the only one out there with this problem.
i used a tap and dye set. make new threads in it. its sooooooo easy. adn yes it shouldnt have EVER been stripped. thats what happens when dumb ppl work on things
It happened to me, I simply replaced the stud.
JB Weld may work but it's not exactly a "fix". Next time the valve cover needs to come off your right back in the same situation.

why wouldnt u just thread new threads in it. takes 3 min. hela coil works to if u dnt wanna crack the aluminum. either way both r easy fixes
if the hole is striped out how would taping new treads work. I can get a hold of a tap but dont know how that would help, please explain. My have to look in to this hela coil, dose it cost a lot, and is it hard to do?

ok when u htread new threads into the stripped hole it will leave u a bigger hole than b4. so then u take the size tap and go get a bolt. its really not that hard. if its a 10mm tap u use a 10mm hex bolt or whatever head type u like the best. hela coil i dont trust they are garbage and leak. all tho it can be used in ur case but it does have the capability of leaking because they can NOT be tightened that much like a reg. bolt can be.idk try whats best and easy for u. and if u tap it be very carefull no to split the al.

**** this happen to me but it didn't strip the thread, it broke the container that the bolt threaded into to. and didn't realize it till i took the head off one day. so their must had been 2 huge junks of metal somewhere in my motor lol
That much ???
I go a little more then hand tight, I use a 1/4 inch ratchet and hold it like a screw driver and tighten them. I'd rather have them loose and have to go back and add a little more snug to them.
To all the younger guy's, the rubber gasket seals, not the tightens of these weak old small bolt's.
Be careful.
Everybody should own a speed wrench / speed handle. They allow you to really feel how much torque you are putting on a bolt.
If you don't know what one is....
