question about oil
You dont have to go to high mileage oil but its recommended because in high mileage oil there are extra additives to help seal worn down piston rings and what not...i still use regular mobil 1 in my b16 that has about 90k on it and its fine but i will eventually switch over to a high mileage oil...it never hurts

The previous owner of my car used Castrol GTX, then when I bought it at 89K I switched to Mobil1 5w30 fully synthetic. I used that for a little over a year, then switched to Valvoline MaxLife at about 110K because I couldn't get the M1 as cheap as I could before.
Been running MaxLife 5w30 year-round ever since then, for the past 165K+ miles. Car has 276K+ on it and still runs like a top.
So I actually switched from dino to synthetic AFTER 75K, and then switched back to dino again (MaxLife is now a synthetic blend, though), and have never had a single problem.

dont mean to thread jack but i've been wondering myself.
my da is stock [engine wise] with 250,xxx on the odometer.
what oil brand and viscosity would you guys suggest i use?

well brand, i never really paid attention to it as long as its not no name oil.
and viscosity, i use 10w40.
too thick?
i like what i've been hearing about mobil1, i think ill switch to that.

I would switch to 5w-30 or 10w-30 (if you are in a warmer climate). Try it out. If you are burning excessive oil, you should probably do a rebuild...
It doesn't really matter which one.
5w will probably give a little easier start up.
I'm switching to 0w on my next oil change and we'll see what happens...

I use 5w-30 year round with 276K miles on the engine. Since I replaced the leaky oil cooler o-ring last Thanksgiving, I've only been losing maybe 1/2 quart at the MOST in 3K miles.
Note: at operating temperature, 5w-30 and 10w-30 are THE EXACT SAME viscosity. The only difference is 10w is thicker when cold. 80% of engine wear happens during cold start-up, so really an engine should last longer using 5w-30 all the time.
Really the best option would be 0w-30, but that weight is generally expensive and hard to find. However I am considering trying Amsoil's synthetic 0w-30 with their oil filter and using it for their recommended 15K mile/1 year oil drain interval and see how it goes. Right now that would be cheaper than changing my oil 4 times a year with Valvoline MaxLife.

do you ever drive that car very hard pat? i know most of the track guys {including myself} burn a quart every 1500 or so with auto-x, weekend drags and all out back road driving.
