1993 integra cold idle issue...please help
ok heres the deal....the car has always had a little bit of a bouncy idle and no one else ever noticed but me and i wanted it gone because it bugged me. i cleaned out the IACV let it dry and put it back on...no cigar. i mentioned it to our master tech at work and he adjusted the thermal wax valve on the back of the intake manifold. IT MADE IT WORSE! i think i got it back to where the thermal wax valve was but it still runs like it has a stage 9 cam in it when cold. as soon as it warms up it idles fine....anyone have any ideas? when cold it idles between 500-900 no like a surge tho. its just really choppy. NO MIL.
PLEASE HELP
PLEASE HELP
bump...need help asap. i am going to go try resetting the ecu and possibly making sure everything in the distributor is tight. i just replace the coil
more info....this only happens if the car is STONE cold....only if it sits over night or for probably 6+ hours...just tried to find the fast idle valve i think we are referring to the same valve but the guy at work called it a thermal wax valve...also smells a little rich when this happens....SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
Will this help?

Make sure your PCV valve isn't clogged up, clean or replace air filter, after you clean both the IACV and FITV reset your ECU and let it run until it warms up with out touching the gas pedal then shut off.

^^thank you...yeah that is what was adjusted. according to the guy at work its supposed to be screwed all the way in. and thats when my problem came about. i attempted to put it back where it was but no luck....any suggestion on how to adjust it without breaking knuckles. thats a bitch to get at.
X2 try to clean out with carb cleaner first, make sure that u remove the seal, so the carb cleaner wont damage it...Also cheack all your vaccum lines...You might also have a bad Intake manifold gasket, that is leaking air in...Might need to replace that as well, check for a hissing sound coming from the mani when it is shut off...
just adjusted the fast idle valve. took it off, cleaned it out. i sprayed carb cleaner around the manifold to see if the idle would rise to find a leak and nothing. i am hoping adjusting the fast idle valve will fix it...fingers crossed
I have a repair guide for 90-93 integras and it recommends not to touch the FITV at all, the old reason you would need to adjust it is that some one else messed with it. Just cleaning it out should have fixed it.
An easy way to check if it's working is to let the car cool down completely, pull off the air intake tube off of the throttle body and start the car, put your finger over the lower hole in the throttle body, you should feel suction, when warm it should be closed and no suction.
