I need a definite answer...17 x 8 rims...what offset???
I am looking into getting 17 x 8 Speedy Atix in gunmetal for my prelude...I am lowered on H and R sports and of course i want no rubbing...can someone please give a definite offset to buy...it seems like there is always a different answer...thanks in advance!
I don't think that 8" wide wheels on a Prelude are a good idea with any offset... But to get the effective offset close to stock, it would be around +48mm.

18x8.. use +45 mm
17x8 use the same thing. +45 or +42 is okay.
i had 18x8 +42 before.. and i had 18x8 +45 before also. both works fine.
choose between these tires:
215/35/18 (no lip protection)
215/40/18 (no lip protection)
225/35/18 (good set up)
225/40/18 (nice and big.. the mean look)

Think about it, stock is 6.5" with 55mm offset, so with an increase of 1.5", and assuming that you want to increase the rim evenly on both inside and outside with respect to the center, you will be increasing the width at 0.75" on both side. Assuming 1" = 30mm ( bad approximation, but you can do the math yourself), .75" will translate to 22.5mm. decreasing the offset by 10mm will move the rim 12.5 mm to the inside of the car, and 32.5mm towards the fender. If that will fit, then your offset will be +45mm. However, I am really not sure if you can fit 32.5mm more towards the fender; 12.5mm towards the suspension might be alright though. If you want to move it inner towards the suspension, then your offset will have to go even higher, like +48 or something like that. However, there really isn't a lot of space towards the suspension side.
try to stick with 7.5" instead... It will do you much better.
i agree. stick with 18x7.5 and you'll be safe for sure.
Of course, the tire matters too. 225/40/18 will make you flush with fender. of course.. you have to consider suspension too.

I wouldn't get 8" rims since there is no added benefit from it. You're never going to go with tires that can adequately accomodate them. I figure the widest you'll go is 225's on the 8" tires, and you can fit 225's on 7.5's just fine. All you're doing is just getting a heavier rim.
Depending on how low you are, +42mm or higher is good. I currently have that offset on 225/35's and I'm not rubbing at all. But then again, my car isn't slammed (I don't want to deal w/ excessive scraping and camber problems). Ideally, I would get +44mm or higher...and you'll be fine.
