Well im starting my journey into a all motor build and have a ton of questions. So far i have a 97 ls block and a 99 gsr head. I also have a set of 52 milli twm itbs. I was planning on using the stock ls rods with arp bolts. Will these be ok because i plan on revving the motor to around 9k rpms. What will these rods handle rpm wise? Also what is the best compression ratio for an all motor build that i can still run 94 octane? I have read some threads about using p30 pistons i believe they are stock jdm b16 pistons. What compression ration would this net with my block and head and the ls rods? What are some other choices for pistons? I know that CP and JE both offer a 11.5:1 compression off the shelf piston for the ls block. Would these be a better choice? For the valvetrain i was planning on running the brain crower steel valve springs and retainers because i plan on driving the car alot. What cams would you all recommend? i want something that will some what idle but still make decent power. I think that is it for now. Thank you to everyone that can help me with some info. Im sorry if some of these questions are stupid. Im jsut trying to do everything correctly the first time. Thanks again in advance.
9k rpms will be fine as long as your not running it like that 24/7. you can run up to 12.0-1 - 12.5-1 compression on 94 octane. if you stay 81 mil bore stock ctr or itr pistons work very well but wont reach the 12.0 - 12.5 comp. unless u shave the head a **** ton. and personally i would use nothing that brian crower makes. cheep does not mean good. skunk 2 stage 1 or 2 cams do good in an all motor build.

thanks for the help guys. i was looking around some more and saw that supertech offers a 11.9:1 piston. any good experiences with this company? or bad?
Incorrect. PCT's net some high numbers and with the smaller gsr chambers its going to be even higher. Just using one of those compression calculators with a ls bottom gsr head and ctrs gets you 12.64. If it was me, I would go with the itr pistons because it seems like your wanting some good daily driving out of this setup. For a lot of all motor builds, oem pistons are your best choice one because they are cheaper most of the time and also you can run them tighter. Just my .02
I have some CP Pistons 11.5:1 comp as well as rods (everything I have is BNIB) and a few other parts.. Maybe wanna trade on the itbs??
Ive been looking for some for awhile. Good luck w/ the build
