Got my brake stuff tell me how i did! thanks!
hey guys,
i posted on what brakes to get few days ago. I finally got tired of thinking and went to a local junk yard. I got a 1996 gs-r front and rear conversion with the gs-r m/c, booster, and prop. valve. Everything looks in very good shape.
i got the whole thing for 500$
plus install which they are doing tomorrow - 200$
plus 4 disc resurfacing - 40$
plus ebc greenstuff pads for both front and rear - 145$
885$ all together
hope it stops as good as a type r !
my car : 95 cx jdm type r swap with lots of little goodies.
thanks for reading... any info or experiences would be good to hear. thanks !

pads are too expensive, but the install is cheap so its a wash.
I thiknk its a good deal over all, considering its a half-day to all day thing for most people.
If you can afford another 100 bux or so, I would get some steel braided lines. But they aren't absolutely necessary.

umm the pads are a bit expensive but they are gettin it to me kinda quick so i dont really mind. i doubt ill get the ss lines because i dont think i absolutely need them to stop real quick. maybe better pedal feel. but the money can be spent elsewhere right now.
i have a few questions. when they do the swap do they flush the brake system or not? if so , ill get some valvoline synthetic brake fluid.
i need the help quick so asap ! thanks guys!

they have no choice but to flush the ENTIRE system.

well i think their prices were all the same around here for ls, gs , gsr. yes i do know they are the same. they didnt have anything else so i dont think i had a choice. also they said they have installed a gsr conversion with abs on non abs cars and all u do is disconnect one of the wires and bend some other ones.
so now it wont work to full potential??? damn, please more info!!

yeah that's a lot of money to dish out for the brake upgrade, just to compare I got the complete front and rear integra brakes for 250 plus the non-abs master cylinder from Autozone for 60 and to resurface the rotors was 6 each also at Autozone. The trick is to go to a hillbilly junkyard to get parts, it seems most junkyards now know about the demand for civic and integra parts and price them accordingly.
But I guess everything in Cali is expensive.

Not a bad deal but not great either. I got my 4 wheel 11" disk brake upgrade from Brian at Fastbrakes.com for about $500 and the rear trailing arms from a 94si from a friend for cheap. My kit came with 4 11" rotors, 4 integra calipers and 2 sets of mounting hardware. Now I just need help getting them installed. Anyone in the MD/VA/DC area familiar with these kits want to make some money?
ok it seems like your guys know a lot about brakes when i don't know anything about them. I have stock civic brakes that can't keep up with the power i have. It's a 4 dr lx with a b18c with lots of goodies. I want to get the best prices possible cause this just came up and my brakes are about to die. i'm gonna be doing a little auto x but it's also a daily driver but do i have to get a whole control arm from a integra to do anything?

you spent $885 to stop a 180 whp (maybe....fully built???) motor??? wtf??? that's quite a bit of money to be spending on an entire brake setup. you could have just upgraded the fronts and that would have been fine. is your setup for daily driving? road race? drag? the pads are a bit pricey...resurfacing at $10/rotor is pricey too...where did you go to resurface them? maybe you could have put that $$$ into making your car a little faster...like valvetrain and cams, cam gears, lighter flywheel (JUN or Spoon or Toda) or better yet get a LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (LSD) like a Quaife...that would have been a great investment for $800 or so...oh well...you probably have an LSD on that tranny already...

at first people tell me get gsr brakes. then when i get em, i messed up? whats the problem here? 10$ a piece for resurfacing is about average where i live. my flywheel is light, 9lbs jdm. i also have lsd and i will be putting in cams in about 3-4 months. i just had a great problem with stopping and had bad experiences with not enough braking power. Some of you guys say its too much braking power others of you say its not enough. this is really wierd and i dont know who is right.
i will be using a gsr m/c with abs so if they flare and bend the line will it still be able to use the brakes to full potential?

i got a friend with gsr brakes in a hatch with a b18c1 he said he noticed a big difference and thats with out changing the m/c
im doing my brake swap tomarrow ill let you know how it feels

i got the install done. i havent really pushed it yet but it feels pretty good. i gotta get an alignment and my pads on monday. i made a mistake when i said i got a gsr m/c when i really got a non abs one. the guy working there said it would kinda be a pain to use a abs one. so im safe on that!
now the only thing is to season my rotors. ive been downshifting to 3 and then 2 to not use my brakes much. seems to work.
i heard the method to breaking in rotors is to go to 60 mph and slowly stop to 5 mph , 5 times, let it cool down for 15 mins. then form 60 to 5 mph with medium effort, 5 times, let cool down for 15 mins, and then 60 to 5 mph hard braking , 5 times, and leave it over night. is that good? thanks guys.

...i heard the method to breaking in rotors is to go blah blah blah...
What you NEED to do is get the pads seated in. I would do that by riding them hard with the gas peddle to the floor. Otherwise, you're just gonna glaze everything over. Remember, brakes work by friction. You don't want shiney, smooth surfaces.
its on baers website on how to brake in rotors or pads. im not making it up...
that is a grip..u coulda got gsr rear disc for like 200 if u search hard. oem pads are fine in the rear
then..for the front. nopi.com has generic corrado 11 inch rotors like 30 a piece. then u find gsr calipers..like 100 for both..then..fast brakes adapter bracket is like 140... hawk pads..like 80...stainless lines like 110 all around..

ok all those parts u listed turn out to be more than what i paid.
thats too much braking power. now that i have this kit, its already more than enough for me. thanks.
i got the pads for 120$ instead of 145$ .

$885 for the whole brake set-up don't seem too expensive. Only thing is, with that much money, you should've gotten brand new performance rotors and rebuilt calipers, ITR M/C, boosters. And you could've done it your self and save $200.
It will not stop like ITR. ITR has bigger calipers, rotors m/c.

it turned out to be 865$ all together plus they installed gsr sway bars for free. also getting new rotors and all that other stuff would cost more than what i paid since they would have to find a type r m/s and flare it to fit my car which im pretty sure they werent willing to do. the calipers looked in great shape so whats the point of fixing something that isnt broken
?
i thought i could stop like a type r with gsr brakes and ebc greenstuff and it sure feels like it after driving my friends type r. Oh well it stops more than i need for now! thanks !
